I took Dad to Edith's Mexican Buffet for breakfast. Edith's is located on the service road of the expressway going east from Shary Road in Mission. We were greeted and seated, then greeted again by our appointed attendant. I forgot her name but she was on point on service throughout our meal. We sipped our coffee and chatted for a minute before getting up to serve ourselves. Once I got over to the hot line and started scanning over the perimeter, I realized this place has a pretty good spread going on over here. There were different types of scrambled eggs done Tex-Mex style, I eyed potatoes, salsas, and refried beans. ( 👍) I really liked that they were using fresh eggs and not liquid eggs in their dishes. Makes a big difference, plus they had covers on the holding pans to keep it nice and hot, more kudos guys!! There is American fare available, as well as, a row of cereal dispensers if you fancy a bowl of oats. I started with a bowl of Menudo, Dad opted for bacon and eggs with a side of refried beans and flour tortillas freshly made. I'm telling you this place was on point. The accompaniments that normally come with Menudo were available in abundance, again tortillas coming in hot!! The Menudo had a really good flavor but the Tripe itself was cut into way too big pieces, almost chunky if I may. Several pieces were not cut all the way through, so it's chewing two chunky pieces at once. It really appears that no true effort was involved in that part of the preparation. After the Menudo I tried several other items and really liked them, everything was delicious. Then came the biscuits and gravy. Good gravy Bad 😞 Biscuits, really hard, I hoped covering it gravy would soften it. Nope, I could not cut through it, and when I finally did, I thought I was going to break the plate! I did a demo for the attendant, to verify I was for real on these rocks. However, A Bad Biscuit does not make a bad experience. I plan on taking my wife, she'll love it. My Dad really liked it. He plans on...
Read moreThis review is only for the breakfast buffet. So, I have eaten here a few times, and like a lot of buffets, it is definitely a quantity over quality. Price is about 11 dollars a person, and drinks are not included. Going down the line, you have fruit, menudo, and several types of prepared scrambled eggs with things like bacon, weenies, potatoes, etc. There's also meats like bacon, sausage links, and weiners by themselves, along with refried beans, both with chorizo and plain. Hasbrowns and biscuits. Finally, some cakes and cereal, but wait, there's more. Off the buffet, you can get eggs made to order, pancakes, and waffles. Corn and flour tortillas are passable. So that's what you can get, but is it good enough to want? Yes? Depends on your standards, but I think for all the variety, it's at least worth a try. I prefer this location and layout (RIP DiMassi's) to the one in Pharr. It doesn't feel so cluttered. As for the service? Not great. It's not the worst either, but it's rare for us to eat here and not spend half the time looking for our server for refills or made to order items. Other times we've been brought items and drinks we didn't order. Additionally, though the hours say they open at 7 a.m. don't count on that. Expect the doors to actually be unlocked 10 to 15 minutes later, and definitely don't expect all the food out on the buffet till at least 8. This last time, the menudo wasn't out till 8:20. So it's another middling experience. However, the thing that pushes this place more into the positive is that breakfast is served seven days a week. 6...

For a non-Mexican traveler visitor, we found this place and decided to try it out knowingly that we will have no issues ordering. The buffet bar is full of hot and cold varieties and we do not need to pick our brain on what to order.
The wait staff is courteous and friendly. We were immediately sat at our table. The service staff asked if we wanted corn or flour tortilla freshly made for all diners. They were delish!!
The fruit bar was topped with arrays of colorful variety of fruits and puddings. Next, you have huge arrays of salsa, picos, and salads. This is my first time trying jalapeno crema sauce and it is out of this world! The hot bar is topped with so many varieties of Mexican soups, chips, meat, veggies dishes that are quite challenging for us culturally. My adventurous nature drove me to try them all and I did! Wow, total satisfaction. I wish I can tell you the food names and describe the flavors! Unfortunately, not entirely. I do remember a few since there are names posted for each dish. However, not all dishes have posted names. In fact, some of the names disappeared due to the hot steam. Some of the dishes that I remembered included carne guisado, pollo guisado, menudo, tostada. They are deliciously flavored that I went back 3 more times to pick a few of my favorites!!
They have an ice cream bar, but, my abdomen would not take any further expansion. Overall, I would recommend this to locals and visitors to RGV!
