There was only one server for the entire restaurant. She would literally be out of breath when she came back to us, which would be quite infrequent. I don't blame the server for any of the things that went wrong. She shouldn't have been the only one working.
The server delivered the wrong dish. When I brought it to her attention, she gave me the correct dish right away. Instead of letting me keep the wrong dish for free, as has been standard experience in other restaurants, the server notified me that I could only keep one or I would be charged for both. Perhaps the practice I am used to is a luxury of bigger businesses but it was odd to experience nonetheless.
The owner was rude. She yelled at the poor server for making a mistake. That is very unprofessional. You should never berate a worker in front of customers, especially if it was an honest mistake. That poor girl was so overworked and stressed. Somehow, the server managed to stay composed and professional when serving me and my friend.
I was not into the food itself. The tofu soup I had ordered had a slight fishy taste to it. My friend, however, enjoyed her dish (not sure what it was but it wasn't soup).
Payment is required at the front of the store. Nobody was attending the cash register so there was a bell to notify the attention of the owner. She wouldn't come right away as I'm sure she was busy attending to things in the kitchen but she would come within two minutes. When my friend and I were ready to pay, we waited over five minutes, possibly close to ten. We rang the bell a few times in hopes that maybe the first few weren't loud enough. Nobody should have to wait 10 minutes to pay when there is no line. That doesn't make sense. That's how your business stays functioning. The owner eventually came out and didn't apologize for the wait.
I gave it two stars because my friend had been here before and was willing to come back (this was her suggestion). I, however, do not plan on...
Read moreI had been here a couple of times before they renovated, to be honest I wasn’t a fan of the decoration before and I love the colors now! Finally, came back in this evening after they opened up for the second shift. The older lady , the owner, let us know that she had no waiter/waitress and service would take longer. (She was thinking of closing) By this point it started getting really busy. SUPER BUSY. The lady even pulled out the guy who washes dishes in order to help. I would let others know that they could sit wherever and I tried telling people to be patient since they were understaffed but not everyone has that quality. Then, I guess a person she knew came in and she looked so relieved and asked for help. Some other people who got there 5 minutes after us; got up and stared helping out however they could. Even taking orders from other customers. Great thing to see and be a part of. I saw people who claimed to wait for an hour, however this wasn’t true I was there for nearly two hours.
Despite the wait time the food we got was delicious I absolutely loved my experience and have always recommended this place. I go to McAllen every once in a while and always make time to stop here. We got the Dolsot Bimbimbap (my FAVORITE) and the Spicy Samgyupsal! The banchan (side dishes) are also the best! All of it was great and worth the wait. (Even worth the drive from Brownsville)
The people who helped and understood, I appreciate you and wish for many others like you.
Be kind to people and and a reminder that small businesses are still suffering effects from...
Read moreI have to say I used to like this place back in the day when it used to be Seoul house but I'm assuming that they change their names and their owners to Kim's kitchen of course. When it became Kim's kitchen at first I'm not sure if the owner that's presently there was there before cuz I hadn't seen her but before the food was really good and the portions were really good too, now it feels like the food has gotten a little bit higher in price for the same if not less amount of portion of food. I ordered the bibimbap and I ordered an order of side dishes with extra charge of course and the side dishes were in those little plastic cups that are like for dipping I got maybe five of them for three or four dollars just for five but technically four since the fifth one was just the sauce for the bibimbap. Unfortunately when I called to order my entree when I placed my order the person on the phone said that it would take 30 minutes for my order to be done. 33 minutes later I went into the restaurant and they said that it was not ready yet until waiting more so I waited maybe 10 to 15 minutes more and I went home. When I opened the box of my bibimbap I smelled a burnt aroma but I didn't see anything until I reached the bottom of the bibimbap and the rice was completely black of burnt rice. I'm so disappointed as a few times have gone there the food was not as good as it was before. I probably won't be returning to this establishment not for a long...
