My son and I went to Kokio (rhymes with Tokyo) Korean Fried Chicken for lunch. Kokio is located practically on the corner of North 10th St. and Dove next to Lone Star Bank. There has been a line to get in lately, so we wanted to get there a bit early. Luckily when we went in we only had one person in front of us in line, but in a few minutes it really grew behind us. You order at the counter, and the rest is self serve. I ordered the half chicken in spicy red chile sauce, my son ordered the Soy and Garlic half chicken. They were $10 dollars each, we also ordered fries and onion rings, and with sodas the bill came out to $40 dollars. We grabbed some napkins, chopsticks, and our cups. We filled our drinks and found the only table available in the place. Next came the wait, a long wait, then our onion rings arrived. They were pretty good, panko breaded and super crispy. After we finished the rings, we waited some more, and the wait continued. Our Chicken finally arrived, it looked great, tasted great as well, and super crispy. Mine was a bit to sweet and I really didn't want sweet. I honestly believe I was served the sweet and spicy chicken that I saw on the menu. My son loved his, I tried it and it was very tasty, we trade a wing for a wing. The flavors on the chicken made up for the long wait, and the fries were hot and crispy, and fluffy on the inside. The chicken is cut into small pieces, so you have to watch out for the jagged bones. I also felt that the chicken breast meat was a tad dry, but the sauce helps it out. I definitely will be going back to try other flavors they offer...
Read moreNothing is worse than ordering food, relying on the food all being in the bag, you get home to serve and you find your order is incomplete! First time to visit this place. The ordering was great! I explained of it being the first time and the young lady explained the menu, what was popular and the amount of food each would feed. We tried tenders, wings, half a chicken, pot stickers, fries and their corn slaw. The food was good of what was in the bag. It was a different kind of heat, good and spicy. I tried to resolve the problem of my missing item with a call and spoke to a young lady to tell her what happened. No apology, just wanted to know the number of the receipt and who gave me the bag. She offered to have the missing food made and I could return to pick it up, with the assumption I was just down the street. The other option was to refund my money but it would take 3 to 5 business days to have it returned to my account. Or I could return to the restaurant tomorrow with the receipt. I noticed that if you ate in the restaurant, they were being served quickly. The takeout order were coming out an item at a time, which causes the full order not to all be warm at the same time. The customers eating in were being served first, even some that came in after my order. I wouldn’t recommend this place for takeout. Update: So, I arrived to the restaurant and explained the situation, they were the same workers who were willing to make an order of fries. They also mentioned they refunded my money which would show up on my account in a few days. I bumped up the rating,...
Read moreMy very first 5 star review is for Kokio! If you want authentic Korean fried chicken, you must check this place out before the hype gets even crazier!
Ordering: variety of methods are available to cater all needs, you can order in store or by call-in and online ordering (Toast).
Price: majority of the negative reviews here are because of the price and let’s make it clear, you won’t be disappointed for the money you will be spending. Quality and tasty food = expensive ingredients, it’s that simple.
Most importantly food: The chicken is really good here because of the outside coating is crispy and crunchy with flavor, while the meat is tender and juicy. Lot of times, other chicken places have been hit or miss with their sizes being small, but Kokio seems to keep up their chicken size pretty well. My personal favorite as of now are the sweet&spicy flavored chicken and the curly fries, and will continue on returning to try everything on the menu.
Tips✔️ (you will thank me later 😎)
The hype is real in this place, so order ahead of time either via telephone or online; Kokio is busy so expect to wait 30~40 min. Majority of the negative reviews are biased towards the price (see above for my take on price of Kokio chicken), so don’t hesitate to get your next...
