The Elwood B.F.D. — Restaurant in McKinney

It was our first time at The Elwood and we had an great experience. The ambiance was dark and a bit moody with music playing low but had a casual enough “seat yourself” atmosphere. We ended up splitting a long high top table with another couple. We ordered the an Austin East Cider (on draft) and Michoacana for drinks. The cider was cold and fresh and the tequila drink was unique and delicious enough to order a second. For food, we started with their house bruschetta- a great choice for those who love a spin off of the classic. We ordered the Cobb salad with chicken, S&V chicken sandwich, and tots to share for our main course and we’re not disappointed. The Cobb salad was classic with candied pecans, the perfect addition. The chicken was cooked well in a tasty marinade. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was a few big chunks of unseparated lettuce in the salad, but that is just my personal preference. The S&V chicken was basically chicken coated in salt and vinegar chips and was the perfect amount of tangy and salty. We will get a side of ranch next time to add on. The side of crispy tots was huge with plenty leftover to take home. They had a few specials on the chalkboard that also sounded amazing, so don’t forget to check that out during your visit. Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Drink prices were about average and food was a bit cheaper than expected. Nice atmosphere, very very good drinks at a reasonable price ($13) and several very good apps like the brussels sprouts and deviled eggs. Service from our waiter was poor as we rarely saw him, he didn’t write down any of her orders and then forgot to enter my wife’s salad, once he realized his mistake it still took 20 more minutes to have the salad delivered.

Our party also had the Reuben sandwich which was good and the salt and vinegar chicken which was so soaked in vinegar that’s really all you could taste even with all the other toppings on the sandwich. I had an entire whiskey drink after it and two hours later it’s still all I can taste in my mouth, vinegar.

The server asked if I liked it because I pushed the plate away with half the sandwich left and I said no it was way too much vinegar (and I’m a guy that likes salt and vinegar chips)

The bill came and although I didn’t expect the sandwich to be taken off the salad was still there which I found to be completely insane. Granted they took it off the Bill without any hesitation when I questioned it but to me it should’ve been taken care of upfront.

I won’t be back simply because I think the menu was too limited and I had the bad experience, but I could certainly see why if you wanted a good local pub in your neighborhood that this is better than a lot of the chain options...

I cannot say enough good things about The Elwood B.F.D.! I've been a regular at this restaurant for several months now, and it has become my go-to spot for great food and a fun night out.

First and foremost, the food at The Elwood B.F.D. is great! From the burgers to the tacos to the salads, everything is made with high-quality ingredients and taste amazing. I highly recommend the Elwood burger and loaded tots!
