I have found my new pizza place for Mebane! I'll be doing some compare/contrast here, so I'll put the short version up front - I love lots of toppings. LOTS of them. I don't mind paying for them. Their website lets you pick "double" and even "TRIPLE" for nearly every topping!! It was ready when promised, the staff was friendly, and it was great. Details: I ordered two pizzas, one with their standard crust (which is similar to typical chains normal pizza crust in terms of thickness). On this pizza I ordered extra sauce, triple sausage, double pepperoni, spinach, green pepper, extra cheese. I'll review this pizza first. Crust - so so. Like I said, similar to other chains. Sauce - Probably where I was most disappointed. Even with ordering extra sauce... there really wasn't a lot. I like sauce to be dripping out when I take a bite. I haven't found a chain that does this (outside of Rosati's - when ordering extra sauce), so not a huge impact here. Sausage - excellent. Great flavor. And was truly impressed with the VALUE (cost, quantity, quality) of it. Pepperoni - excellent, same as the sausage. Other toppings - pretty normal. Cheese - for getting extra cheese... again a little saddened. I like lots of gooey cheese.
Preparation. The pizza had "toppings on top". I usually only see this in places that use a "conveyor belt oven" to ensure the toppings cook through. I don't mind it, it's just unusual to me, I'm used to pizzas that were in carousel ovens, with cheese on top. Pizza was 'pie cut', again something I've gotten used to here.
Interestingly, the website did NOT limit me on my topping selections! Another chain did that "to ensure the pizza would cook through" -- the drawback of the conveyor belt oven, when it comes out, you have to live with it, can't "leave it in" or "slide it back" (unless there are no other orders) and putting it through a second time will burn it. So not sure how Marco's cooks theirs, but still glad they let me order all I wanted!
Second pizza was for my dad. He likes thin crust, not a lot of sauce, and basic toppings. His was sausage, green peppers, and mushrooms. No extras. His came in Square Cut, not sure if because of crust selection, or pizza size. This is what I'm more used to.
I dislike mushrooms, so picked them off a piece to try the thin crust. I really liked it. It was a great, the right about of crisp versus chew. Very much like the crusts of thin crust in Chicago. He thought it was very good.
Bottom line, thin crust will be my go-to, very pleased at topping amounts and general value. Only thing I need to order is extra sauce on the side, and add it along more cheese to it myself when I get home and use a cooking torch...
Read moreOrdered 2 pies for our family, upon checking the food we noticed that we didn’t get what we ordered so my husband called and spoke with someone. She pulled the order and told him that on their end it didn’t show we ordered a pepperoni pizza. And that they had been having issues with the online system glitching. I then spoke with her and let her know that in the email confirmation I didn’t even show both pies that were ordered. She stated I was yelling at her and I politely told her that I wasn’t and only wanted to know if it could be remade. She then said “our district manager will be here any minute and I can ask her.” She then said “we actually my bosses wife is here can you hold so I can ask her?” Another lady got on the phone and asked what the issue was and I repeated to her what I told the first person. She asked what we needed remade and I said “pepperoni.” She told me it takes about 8 minutes and we could pick it up. When my husband got back to our hotel he said he had gotten into an argument with the manager as well as the owner because they again made a cheese pizza and the lady told him that is what I said we needed. To end this very long story we ate but ended up with food poisoning so we will never be...
Read moreI ordered delivery on 11/4/23. Pizza was very flavorful, albeit a bit greasy. Same goes for the cheesy bread. I attribute that to the type of cheese being used. Both the pizza and the cheesy bread were very good though. The only complaint I would have, and it’s not really a complaint, but more of a personal preference, is that the greasiness is pretty high (when it soaks through the bottom of the boxes and no box liner on the pizza), and although I like the caramelized edges of the pan baked breads, they do have a life span especially if they are not scrubbed out often or at all. I personally don’t care for all the burnt crispy pieces that collect on the bottom from previous bakes. The edges, yes, but not on the bottom. I also prefer fresh mushrooms as opposed to canned, so I guess that’s another “complaint”. The best part of this experience was the promptness of the order. From order to delivery it was around 25 minutes, and I live on the opposite side of town. The delivery driver was very courteous and friendly as well. I recommend ordering from Marco’s Pizza! Good job all...
