First time in the place...it's a quaint little place, something I'd expect for a little bar and public house.
First, the menu is pretty good, with some amusing names for takes on American food...take the "Phil O'Delphia" sandwich, for example - great take on an American classic with an Irish name. I had the Haddock Cape Verde, which came with sweet potato fries and coleslaw, and added on a cup of chili. Everything was very good, and was hot when it arrived, which makes all the difference. Taste of the food was very good too.
Second, the beer list. Sure, there's a limited selection, but hey, you've also got a full bar to choose from if you don't like the beer selection. The usual Guinness, Harp, and Smithwick's on tap, along with Leiney's Summer, Sam Summer, Bud Light, and a couple others. I'm in an Irish place, I need myself a Guinness (or two). Beer arrives, and in the foam, a shamrock had been drawn. Very nice touch. Served at a nice temperature too - not too cold, and certainly not warm. Right where a Guinness should be served.
It was quiet for a Sunday night. There was a party going on in one room and the only person serving the other room was the bartender, which you'd think would make for awful service. Quite the opposite. Although he was busy serving drinks, greeting folks as they sat down, and just chatting, he was very pleasant, and not once did he complain. Heck, he even took the order without the need to write it down, and everything came out EXACTLY correct. Can't beat that. Never caught the bartender's name, but he was a great server, very polite, and always on top of things with a positive attitude.
Overall, a fantastic place to come and have a drink, a bite to eat, and relax after a day. Definitely worth checking out and going if you haven't already. You won't be...
Read moreWe visited Mickey Cassidy’s in Medway for a St. Patrick’s Day lunch, hoping for a great experience, but unfortunately, we left very disappointed.
My father and I both ordered the Corned Beef & Cabbage plate ($19 each, plus $2 extra for Irish soda bread), while my mother had the Fish & Chips ($18). While the service was friendly, the food quality was severely lacking. The corned beef, especially, was a major letdown—dry and tough, with a texture more like leather than the tender, flavorful corned beef one would expect from an Irish restaurant, especially on St. Patrick’s Weekend. It was truly the worst I’ve ever had at a restaurant, and coming from a place that advertises itself as serving authentic Irish food, I found that particularly disappointing. The Irish soda bread was hard as a rock and served ice cold, further diminishing the experience. The Fish & Chips were slightly better, but the batter was soggy and lacked the crispness that would have made it enjoyable.
To top it off, they were playing Irish music, but instead of the lively, celebratory tunes you’d expect for St. Patrick’s Day, it was the depressing, dour kind that really brought down the mood. It was a major bummer and added to the overall sense of disappointment.
Additionally, at $10 per pint, the Guinness pricing seemed steep for the area. Given the overall experience, we won’t be returning and would encourage others to explore alternative...
Read moreVery disappointed in the service at this establishment. My husband and I stopped in on a very quiet evening to get a drink at the bar. Instead of the bartender smiling and greeting us with a "Hello, how are you folks doing tonight?" the first words out of his mouth were, "These seats are taken." I replied, "No worries, we'll probably just stand anyways because we can't stay very long." Rather than asking us what we'd like to drink or saying, "I'll be with you in a moment", he rudely turned his back on us and proceeded to prepare drinks for the few other people sitting at the bar. We figured once he served the drinks, he would come over and take our order, but that didn't happen. Instead, he began puttering around tidying up the bar area and ignoring us. Another couple then walked in and took seats at the bar and the bartender immediately waited on them and left us still standing there at the bar. At that point, we knew he wasn't going to serve us so we made the decision to walk out. Never in my life have I experienced such poor service from a bartender. I have no idea what his problem was, or what he had against us. It's his loss because we always leave bartenders big tips. Will never go back,...
