Exlines in southern Memphis Tennessee intrigued a partner and I enough to try it for our first taste of "Memphis Style" pizza. The menu promoted a thick crust pizza with signature sauce and toppings to the edge. Having appreciation for Chicago Style, New York style, my own local St. Louis style and even the unique quad-city style... I was anxious to see if Memphis style stacked up anywhere near the big 5 (or 4, as I have yet to try authentic Detroit style). We returned exactly 45 minutes later as directed to retrieve our order. Here's the deal - it was not bad. The pizza was an unusual crust (strange but interestingly good - well worth tasting absolutely.) We ordered their all meat specialty pizza. Sausage-lovers rejoice as the servings of pork, Italian, and even maple sausage was very generous. The pepperoni and ham get no complaint. The cheese was plentiful and flavorful. The sauce is evenly balanced yet original. The crust had a few blacken parts but this actually worked well for added toasty flavor for an ultimately pleasing impression of "Memphis Style". I encourage others to give Exlines a try. However do not go on a busy Saturday night. The service end was, well... sloppy. The clerks kept asking every returning customer what it was they ordered and all of us seemed to have to wait. I wanted to bring up that they failed to charge me for one of their delicious-looking chocolate-chip cookies which I wanted to bring up and offer to buy separately... but feared adding to any confusion which would cause the many others waiting to have to wait even a moment longer. The pizza came promptly and was opened for viewing. Square-cut, cheesy, it looked great. But as I reminded the clerk, I also ordered toasted ravioli. They called to the back for it and then assured me it would be up in 5 minutes. I moved to the end of the counter to wait while other guests negotiated their own pending orders. Eventually I was approached and asked what I was waiting on. I reminded them again of the ravioli and they went to the back, telling me it would be up shortly upon a brief return up front. Nearly 15 minutes later, I was informed that 2 orders were cooking (one for me and one for one other in waiting, and they would be up in just a few minutes). My sadness arises from having received a hot fresh pizza that lost temperature while I stood for 20 minutes awaiting a single order of Ravioli that tasted identical to Mama-Louisa style (decent widespread ravioli that will fryer cook in 4 minutes or oven cook in 8). I did not complain as everyone was already flustered and I felt bad for them. The kitchen and front clerks were far out of sync with each other and the place lacked leadership. One figure who appeared to be management did eventually appear before employees apologizing for having been trapped on the phone with what must have been external management (which I would chastise them for choosing a Saturday night rush period to distract in-store mgmt from operations). Finally I departed a lobby full of other waiting guests with my hot ravioli and my now luke-warm Memphis style pizza. I wanted to give 5 stars... if the service matched the pizza, 5 stars and return visits would absolutely be in order. Keep in mind, anyone reading this I have worked in food and am extremely forgiving in terms of overall service in particular... the clerks were good folks, and the cooks were hard at work. The place was 100% disorganized chaos though with no leadership present to bring it all together. 3 stars for a compromise between a unique and great product versus a sloppy and chaotic delivery. I am glad I tried it, it was worth the cost. But I will sample others in Memphis before I...
Read moreThe customer service at this location SUCKS!!!! I called to place an order, and was immediately placed on hold. There was no greeting nor the courtesy of asking if I would hold. After about 3 minutes of holding a young lady asked what I would like to order. Once again, there was no "thank you for holding" or "sorry about the hold". I told her what I wanted, and she then hung up after taking my name and number, but not giving me my total. I called back to get my total, and the same young lady said," your total is uhhhh" then pressed the hold button. She returned after about 2-3 minutes of holding, gave me my total, then hung up. I really wanted to call or visit and have words with her, but I did not want anything done to my food. This was my first time ordering from this location and may not ever order from them again. The location that i used to frequent was shut down, so I gave them a try. Even after reading the reviews, I still gave then a try. My husband was the one to pick up the food being the location was close to his job. He made it home with the food, and my order was only half right. I called back and was hung up on 4 times while letting them know my order was only half right. The fifth time I called, I again was placed on hold as if they had caller id and recognized my number. So, I was eventually connected with the manager on duty and he suggested I just return the next day to have a new item made since I couldn't return the food that night. I called in the order the next day, went to pick it up, and stood there holding my (heavy)baby in my arms being unacknowledged by a lady standing at the counter on the phone talking about selling puppies. She was talking about how she could get more for them because it was tax season and blah blah blah. It took one of the cooks to acknowledge me and call someone else to check me out. I was really upset but held my composure because I had my baby with me. I will do everything I can to never spend a penny...
Read moreI ordered a pizza from the Whitehaven location. When my husband returned the pizza was burned. Mind you we live in Southaven almost olive branch MS. Thats not a short drive. We ordered from Exlines Because the pizza is normally really good. So when I called the restaurant to explain that my pizza was burned. They told me that the only way they could correct the issue was that we had to drive back to the restaurant. Then when I explained that it's raining and dark and I don't live around the corned the 1st employee placed me on hold and then the phone hung up. When I called back I spoke with an employee by the name Amanda. I explained to her the situation and she didn't have any concern with the fact that I don't live near the restaurant and how inconvenient it would be for me to drive back just to have a pizza remade. Seeing that the conversation wasn't going anywhere I asked for the corporate number and just threw the pizza away and ordered Papa John's . This place rates 0 on customer service and 0 for even serving a burned pizza. I wouldn't...
