Food here is always amazing. Owners and staff are also always amazing. I’ve often seen the owners at the counter taking orders and running food! The seasoning on most of the menu is called “Piri piri” seasoning. Which is Swahili for “pepper pepper” so its obviously slightly spicy. I saw a less than good review from a person saying they were upset the food was a little spicy. So if it says “piri piri” just know that there will be some kick. Give it a google guys. If you don’t want it just let them know! They can withhold the seasoning! Don’t leave bad reviews on good food because you didn’t research. it’s meant to be similar to other South African cuisine in the Memphis area (in my opinion) if you’ve been to bonefish or similar. But very healthy! Grilled fish, grilled chicken, and grilled veggies are the majority of the menu. I’ve seen lots of business lunches and body builders when I’ve been there for lunch or dinner. The appetizer called “humdinger shrimp” is to die for. It’s fried shrimp tossed in a spicy aoili served over (what I think) is an aisan slaw. It’s my favorite. If you’re not interested in any of that then I would suggest asking for maybe a blackened salmon or tilapia over a Caesar salad or even a blackened salmon or tilapia in a Caesar wrap. The vibe inside the restaurant is similar to an upscale Mcalisters. You order at the counter and you can watch the staff cook your food through the glass windows. You get a number for your table and when your food is ready they bring it out. There is a self service drink counter also and several dessert options. I recommend the...
Read moreAte here for my birthday dinner. I ordered the plate of 3 tacos (1 avocado, 1 grilled shrimp, and 1 humdingers shrimp with a side of grilled sweet potato), and my husband got the Cajun pasta with shrimp. It was delightful! A great place to go for shrimp food that’s not too expensive.
Our food was delicious, though I wish my shrimp tacos came with some avocado slices on them. If I order the same thing again, I would move some of the fried avocado to my other tacos and vis versa so I have avocado on my shrimp tacos. Take note, if you’re going to save a taco to go, save the one that doesn’t have fried parts on it! I wanted to save one to go, but already ate my grilled taco, so I had to swallow down all 3 because I knew they wouldn’t be as good later.
I was hoping for a place with dimmer lights, and their lighting was perfect. I was worried at first because photos here showed really bright light at least during the day. We snagged a booth and were pretty comfortable.
The lady who took our order felt a little weird. Instead of asking what I’d like for a side, she just waited until I said it. It was my first time there, and I figured she could tell from how I ordered the tacos, but I’m questioning if I would have even gotten my side if I didn’t just say what I...
Read morePeople wise I would say great. The cashier was kind and helpful. He had a great mood and character. He said his name is Kingdom. He even made me chuckle because he said, “My name is Kingdom just like the scripture in the Bible. Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth just like it is in heaven.” Haha. His entire mood was awesome.
Food wise its a pass for me. Tacos were not good at all. I tried so hard to like them but everything was off. I advise do not get them… at least not the chicken tacos. It had supposedly grilled chopped chicken, cabbage, and a special sauce inside of flour tortillas. The flour tortillas weren’t cooked. The chopped cabbage was not appealing and the special sauce they put on it was especially nasty. The chicken had a weird look and taste from grill. It had a scorched and unclean taste. Maybe the grill was not cleaned properly. I experienced allergy from potential cross contamination because I have seafood allergy. The seasoned rice was good and the black bean salsa. My moms salmon however looked good and she said she enjoyed it. I guess it’s a hit or miss place, hence...
