I have been going to this place for many years and yes the food is overpriced, but what I usually get when I visit is pretty good, which is why I am leaving 3 stars. With that said, my issue is not with the food or the service. My concern is that I was charged more money than what is listed on my receipt on my last visit. While I have been told it was just a mistake and it happens sometimes, I am not buying that. I was asked to provide my card number over the phone for a refund and I refused to do so. They should be able to refund a transaction with the transaction number or by scanning the card receipt they have on hand. Either way, it all seemed too shady to me and I am not taking any chances giving my full debit card number out over the phone in a situation like this.
With most card processing software, the full card is scanned, but the merchant does not have access to the full card number. Usually just the last 4. But either way, the merchant should be able to process a refund without the full card number.
When I am in stores/restaurants I notice some customers choosing not to get their receipt. But be careful when declining a copy of your receipt, you might end up in a situation where you are charged more than you should have been, but have no proof. Always ask for a credit/debit card receipt and if you choose not to leave a tip, put a 0 on the tip line. Leaving the tip line wide open just opens you up for trouble. Even in the case where you include a tip or cross out the tip line, they can and will pull a...
Read moreWe had a great visit to Las Tortugas and appreciated the effort and time Pepe put into explain the menu and what his restaurant was all about.
Pepe for President!! super nice and friendly guy. The food was fresh tasting and nicely prepared. Sure a little on the pricey side, but like Pepe said "you are going to say two things..oh it cost to much and then later you will drop money off in the tip jar saying oh this was so cheap for what we got and here is a tip!"
We got the street corn and 100% recommend that. Also got some steak tacos and shrimp tacos. Not really sure we ordered off the menu. He just said let me know what you like and I will make you something you will love.
Also get the Mango and Lemon drinks. I highly recommend those as well!
we topped it all off with the fried cheese and unfortunately we were not a fan of it. great presentation and it had some nice spices on it but not a fan of the hard crisp texture. $10 was also a bit on the high side and I would say it was more of a cheese crisp then fried soft cheese we were exception. but maybe more of an expectation then anything at all. I think they would go good on a salad all crumbled up.

Read moreI've been holding back for some time but I'll let it out now. This place is the MOST overpriced and underwhelming deli I've ever been to in my life. 1 plate of 3 Tacos 2 tortas and 3 horchatas came up to $80+. The owner informed me that they didn't sell rice and beans because it was "poor people food." Like tacos aren't? Like a bollio with beans and lettuce isn't? Like Pico de Gallo and chips aren't? Asinine. And to top it off he has multiple posts up in the restaurant that show his hate for Californians and Texans. Maybe because we know real mexican food you fraud. Being a 1st generation Mexican American I know what real Mexican food is i grew up eating it. This isn't it. All of the people you see in there are american. There's a reason for that. A real Mexican wouldn't go in there more than once. Either because of the lack of quality, the exorbitant prices or the fact that I witnessed the owner treat fellow Mexicans with a completely different attitude. TL;DR if you're Californian,Texan, broke, or don't want to overpay...
