This seems to be a very large and very popular restaurant. I've heard glowing reviews many times by many friends and acquaintances. It was a Friday night and the place was hopping! I didn't have a reservation, but it was very early in the evening, so I had to wait a short while. The place had low lighting and wood everywhere, a far cry from the concrete building that is presented upon arrival. There is a nice courtyard as you walk up the old world looking wooden doors. It seemed to take a minute to get to our table as we were led through the restaurant. We were almost immediately greeted by our waiter and he was extremely nice. I had been craving fish and chips since St. Patty's Day. Here was my chance. I had heard good things. I upgraded my chips to duck fat fried chips. My wife had a Curry dish and she ordered a couple of sides. Green beans served over some type of yogurt sauce and some type of small whole carrots. My plate looked beautiful and seemed to have everything I needed. Two big pieces of beautiful battered code on top of those duck fat fries, mayo for dipping, tartar for the fish. My sister-in-law has the fish and chips too and my brother-in-law had the Bangers and Mash. The batter was light and airy and the fish was clean. They say you eat with your eyes 1st, this should be good!

It wasn't. The batter had no taste of beer and it was said to be "beer battered". The fish had no seasoning whatsoever and was clean it barely tasted of fish. In fact, it barely tasted of anything. The fries were limp and tasteless too! I ended up asking my waiter for malt vinegar and ketchup to try and salvage this meal. It wasn't just me being picky either. My wife's dish was nothing special and neither was my brother-in-law's. The best thing on that table was my wife's sides. The green beans and the carrots were cooked and spiced by someone who understands flavor. My wife is willing to go back. Me,...

My husband and I came here for lunch. It was our first time in this restaurant. Another friend had made a post about it, and it peaked my interest for a couple of reasons. I love a good Irish pub it looked beautiful from the pictures I saw. When we walked into the restaurant, it did not disappoint! The bar area itself is really eye catching....gorgeous woodwork, nice back lighting, and tall ceilings. A huge variety of all kinds of whiskeys. As we were led to our table, my eyes were inundated with all the cool decor in this place! I loved it and thought it was all so pretty! There is much to take in! We were seated at a table sort of in the back, in front of tall bookcases filled with all sorts of interesting items! Our server greeted us promptly and took our drink order. A glass of wine for me and a drink called The 442 for my husband. They have a good menu and I decided to go with a chicken curry dish with jasmine rice and a wedge salad. I love a good wedge salad, and this one did not disappoint! So good! My husband ordered the Fish and chips and said it was very good. He is kind of picky about tartar sauce, and said this one was very good. Our server, Diego, was attentive and helpful. I asked him about the upstairs area and what was behind some velvet curtains I saw. He said we could go upstairs and look around, if we liked, so at the end of our meal, we did. Another beautiful space! Behind the curtains is a private dining area, which we also had a look at since no one was in there. Very nice. We enjoyed our experience at the Bog & Barley and think you will too! Go in and give them a try! Sit at that beautiful bar and have a drink. It's...

My and I came to the restaurant for lunch today. It was her first time coming per my recommendation. The waitress that serviced us was nice and personable. I ordered the entree I typically love to eat when I come to the restaurant which was the salmon and risotto dish. The salmon is usually flavorful on a bed of hot risotto cooked in olive oil. This day, I received salmon with what appeared to be hummus on one side of the bowl and a bed of cold risotto and some other vegetables on the other side. Whatever it was, I didn't see it on the menu nor did I want it. I told the waitress that the dish I received is not what I wanted. So, the GM , Brad, came to our table and indicated that the dish that I requested was not being served. He stated that the menu had changed and that I received the spring/summer version of the dish I thought I was getting. I tasted the dish and it was simply not good. I kindly told the waitress that I would like to order crab cakes and that I did not like the dish I was being served. Well, Brad returns to the table and tells me that I could order the crab cakes but I still had to pay for the dish that was brought to the table. He so matter of fact, disconnected, uncaring, and very unprofessional. He lacked understanding and devalued me as a customer. I have come to Bog and Barley multiple times. And Brad did not represent what my past experiences have been when I come in. I had to write a review because I was embarrassed in front of my friend after having her witness the type of service you get from poeplI had suggested to her that she...

Absolutely wonderful experience here at Bog and Barley! We were here on a work trip and unfortunately didn't think to make reservations. Despite it being incredibly busy, they were swift in finding us a nice table. The ambiance and atmosphere are truly unique and there is so much that will catch your eye. A lot of thought went into how the place FEELS. The food was wonderful 😊 we had the lamb meatballs, Scotch eggs and deviled eggs for appetizers, which were all amazing. The filet has some sort of consummaé under it that gave it a very "homey" almost roast-like flavor, very good. The crab cake had HUGE chunks of crab and very little breading. The Brussels were slightly bland in and of themselves but the yogurt sauce they come with is very good. The Reuben is made with real corned beef, which I appreciate 👍. The owner of the place, DJ, stopped by our table and was so nice to speak with. The bread pudding was pretty good (it comes with what tasted like a bourbon glaze AND ice cream. However, the creme brulee was better in my opinion. The tea flavor it carries is really different and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I do wish it had been set just a little more firm as it was slightly runny (didn't stop me from eating it 😂). The drinks were nice and strong and fresh. Really everything was great. I plan on coming back in two weeks when I'm here for work again. This time I will make reservations!

As someone who has studied abroad in Scotland a month after Brexit happened, I must say that Bog and Barley’s fish n’ chips are extremely delicious and that the decor especially is worth checking out. I love that the fish is crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. As for the chips, I like that they’re crispy, even though I wish that I was brave enough to have asked for vinegar and either ketchup or mayo, ha ha! Now if only the peas were mashed as opposed to mixed with butter like what I had in Scotland. But eh, that’s just me. Meanwhile, I like that the beers are served in glasses rather than bottles. That makes the dinner even more special for me and my mate. Speaking of who, I must say that after tasting his cabbage steak, I feel that I need to come back and try more foods. Oh, if only I had more time on my hands and money in my pockets. While I would like it if Bog and Barley had more space for dancing and playing games (pool table would especially be nice), all in all, I find this restaurant to be worth going to at least once. :)
