The Blue Monkey — Restaurant in Memphis

Tried to come in with some friends to relax and enjoy some appetizers around 1030 on a Thursday night, we presented our ID’s to the guy at the front, Clarence, he then asked us for our student ID’s To which we replied that we are in our mid 20s and graduated he then responded by telling us “one of our friends was too drunk” and wouldn’t let us in we tried to explain that she only had one drink in the evening then proceeded to say”I’m not talking to you no more” I used to come here all the time and I am a frequent customer at this establishment, and I’ve never been treat this way by any institution, when I asked to speak to the manager he replied by saying “I am the manager” then when I asked to speak to the owner he declined to give me that information. I have served in the food industry for five years in my college days and I have never seen this level of incompetence/rudeness from a manager, the lack of customer service is appalling and inappropriate. My office was supposed to have a company happy hour at this bar I have recommended that they choose a different location and I will no longer recommend this place to my friends or family. The saddest part is that this is the last night that I could spend with this Group of friends and although most of the evening was fun it was completely ruined by this “manager’s” rudeness and disrespect for my friends. This was my second time visiting this location. My first time was pleasurable enough that I knew I would be back. This visit exceeded my 1st (mainly due to the bar attendance's attentiveness. The first time it sucked but the food was good). On that first visit we saw a delicious burger being served and on this one, me and my companion had to try it so we ordered the BBQ bacon burger today. I will attest that this burger not only looked delicious but it actually tasted that way. The fries were hot and the burger was juicy, flavorful and as mouthwatering as it looked. Found another hidden spot for a good burger. The spot has a welcoming atmosphere and usually the only people that have been in are at the bar area but the dining area is open also. There is pool area from what I can see. They also have a hot plate special that runs until they close. Overall, I recommend this place for a cozy date, a quick drink or a great meal...

Well, I really didn’t want to say anything but this is really bothering me. My husband and I decided we wanted to get out for the evening. So we noticed the Blue Monkey wasn’t packed and the atmosphere was a vibe. We set in our own little corner and ordered a meal. Everything was good except the Cole slaw. Definitely a no go. So our waiter Chris….who was astounding, brought us out the twice baked potato. Just as soon as we were about to jump into it, a beautifully, brown house roach crawled across the table like he lived there. At that point, I wasn’t hungry anymore.
