✨ Petals of a Peony: A Culinary Masterpiece with Service to Match ✨
From the moment we walked into Petals of a Peony, the energy was different—warm, inviting, and full of that understated elegance that tells you this is about to be an experience. And an experience it was.
But before I even get into the absolute magic that is their food, I have to highlight our incredible waitress, FiFi.
FiFi was on another level. She wasn’t just attentive; she was in tune. She read the table like a pro, anticipating what we needed before we even knew ourselves. Empathetic, engaging, and deeply knowledgeable, she didn’t just take our order—she curated a journey through the menu. Every recommendation was spot-on, every interaction was effortless, and her energy was nothing short of magical.
The Food: A Bold, Flavorful Masterclass
I don’t say this lightly: every single dish we had was a hit. The flavors weren’t just good—they were bold, layered, and unapologetically rich.
🔥 The Dumplings in Chili Oil – Listen, if you love dumplings, don’t just order one plate. Order two. Maybe even three. They were that good. The chili oil had this deep, smoky heat that wrapped around the dumplings without overpowering them, and the filling was juicy, flavorful, and balanced to perfection. It was easily the best dumpling dish I’ve had in years.
🍜 The Noodles – Silky, rich, and absolutely addictive. The sauce coated every strand perfectly, bringing that ideal balance of spice, savoriness, and umami goodness.
🍚 The Fried Rice – A true standout. Every bite was packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and had the most satisfying texture. Nothing about it was greasy or bland—just pure wok-kissed perfection.
🥢 The Green Beans – Crispy, savory, with just the right amount of seasoning and umami depth. They took something as simple as green beans and elevated it to a must-order dish.
Every dish felt intentional, like the chefs were determined to make each bite memorable. The seasoning, the texture, the balance of flavors—it was all impeccable.
The Verdict? A 10/10 Experience.
Between FiFi’s exceptional service, the explosive flavors, and the beautifully crafted menu, Petals of a Peony is officially on our “must-return” list.
If you love bold, authentic flavors and appreciate a dining experience that feels just as good as it tastes, don’t hesitate—book a table and let them take you on a journey. And if you’re a dumpling lover? Trust me....
Read moreLet me just say the food was so good we ate half of the dishes we ordered before I remembered to take a picture. This is the first time in my life that I have walked into a restaurant and was seated, got great dish recommendations, and the food was on our table all in less than 20 min. If you live in Memphis you know what an amazing feat this is. The food was excellent. Well seasoned and they adjusted the spicy levels as we needed. We had the egg plant, green beans, and the cumin beef all at the recommendation of the owners. We will definitely be back and have this place on the rotation. This is now the best restaurant in Overton square and I am so grateful to have such a great restaurant in our neighborhood. Eat here.
I am adding a second edit after my first experience. I ordered through the google free service for pick up. Turns out it’s better to call the restaurant directly if you want take out. Ready times from the food service apps do not correlate with what you are sent. Concierge was a little rude informing me that my food was not ready and I should not use the app for takeout. My first experience is going to help me over look this second experience. Really looking forward to the food.
And you know what, the food was stellar, worth the wait, worth the walk. My opinion remains the same; this is the best food in Overton sq. I had the pork and sweet potato noodles and those green beans. If you go here do not leave without ordering the green beans....

I visited this place with my friend and some family members. My friend had spoken highly of this restaurant based on previous good experiences, but unfortunately, this visit was disappointing — especially the service.
Ria was our server, and she came across as quite rude. The way the food was served was also disorganized. First, we received the chicken fried rice, then the dumplings five minutes later, and finally the Kung Pao chicken 12 minutes after that. It felt very uncoordinated. Even before we finished eating, we were handed the bill — which felt rushed and inconsiderate.
While the dumplings and fried rice were good, the Kung Pao chicken was bland and had no flavor. What made it worse was that the server didn’t ask about the spice level, and when we asked about it, her response was dismissive. She said maybe others ask, but she didn’t — not the kind of service you’d expect.
After hearing so many good things about this place, I was really looking forward to it. Sadly, we left disappointed and won’t be...
