I’ve been coming to MPC for a long time, at the various locations.
The good: The pizza is typically great, but you it’s an acquired craving in my opinion. It is thin and cracker-like. If you don’t want that style, don’t go here. I will say this location seems to have the least desirable MPC style pizza- they really need to quality control and maybe re-train their line cooks.
The bad: Service- We arrived at the bar and the bartender/server looked us in the eye, but never greeted us (instead continued to talk to her coworkers sitting at the bar) and walked away for over 10 minutes, leaving us sitting there no water or anything. Multiple employees came up during that time to gossip at the end of the bar. At times the employee chatter was so loud it felt like we were watching adults in high school gossip (while still waiting for water and some sort of acknowledgment to order drinks and food).
I’m not a big stickler on service and have actually never left a review specifically calling out service. I can overlook a lot of things, but it seemed like many families and tables were looking around also wondering how to order or even just to get water/drinks after sitting for quite some time with no acknowledgment. The vibes at this location are OFF.
Groups would walk in and there is no sign to “seat yourself” and they would look around and wait for direction. If you have a seat yourself policy, you need to make it known with multiple signs or else it’s such a bad initial confusion. Finally one of the female servers would walk up and would treat each group like they were dumb and were supposed to know to sit anywhere? Again, music volume is low (and honestly the music selection was sleepy) and customers can hear servers talk about them after the interaction… not great.
There were about 10 cooks in the kitchen, that desperately needs a deep clean, and few servers and the ones who were working were just overall rude and inattentive. I’m not asking for dinner and a show, we just simply wanted to order and a lot of tables were also looking confused.
The employee balance was off, vibes were off, it’s sad to see MPC like this. Not a great impression of one of Memphis’s staples. I hope they can turn it around and I hope I can update my review after...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went out on a date to Memphis before a Nick Shoulders concert that was happening later that night, and he really wanted to go to Memphis Pizza Cafe, as he used to go here often as a kid. Apparently, a lot of people were hyped about this place, because when we arrived it was packed. Even though they were packed, there were only two of us, so we got a table quite quickly. It took a minute for our server to take our order, but again, they were packed, so we understood for the most part. We ordered cheese sticks to start us off, and then I put in an order for a slice of their BLT pizza, their Buffalo Chicken pizza, and their Hawaiian Pizza. My boyfriend ordered a Cajun Chicken Supreme, and Ultimate Cheese, and their specialty pizza of the day. We were both pretty excited, but that excitement turned into impatience real quick. It took 30 minutes for our cheese sticks to get to us, which was supposed to be our appetizers. We were starving after waiting 30 minutes for an app, and that wasn't a good sign for how long of a wait our pizzas were going to take. We waited a whole other 45 minutes for our pizza slices to FINALLY arrive at our table. While they were delicious, especially the Buffalo Chicken Pizza, and if you're ever here I would highly recommend ordering it, we basically had to scarf it down or else we were going to be late to our concert, so it wasn't the best dining experience I have had in Memphis. I was excited about the BLT pizza, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I love BLTs, and I love pizza, and this slice was a perfect combo. I had also ordered a Smores pizza early on after our initial order, and that one was pretty quick, but at the point of our finishing our main slices, I had to take it to go since everything took so long. To be fair though, it was definitely the best Smores pizza I had eaten in my life. It's messy to eat on the go, but the crust is just as crispy as a graham cracker, and with everything else on top, it's literally like eating a huge smore, it was pretty awesome. I mean, it's great pizza, but I don't know if it's great enough to wait an hour and 15...
Read moreFirst time at the Pizza Cafe, came down for a nice little vacation with my boyfriend. Heard that this was one of the places to try for sure. Walked in and was greeted with a "sit anywhere you like" only to be told we could not sit at the one of the only three tables remaining. Found that a bit odd, but moved to a different table. The table was soaked with water that wreaked of bleach. We sat for a moment without being noticed. Only to have our salty waitress finally approach us. Ordered our drinks and discussed what pizza we wanted to try. We decided to go with the 16 inch buffalo chicken. Boyfriend accidentally asked for the 15 inch and Mrs. Salty had the audacity to snap back rudely that it's 16, not 15. We looked at each other and just let it go. Wasn't going to let that ruin the night. While we were waiting for the pizza to finish up the waitress came by with two plates which she dropped on the edge of the table and walked away. At that point my boyfriend was getting ticked. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling the same. The Pizza came out shortly after, to where we ate it while being completely ignored. Weren't checked on to see if everything was alright or if we needed anything. Don't get me wrong, the Pizza was freaking amazing. But if you're looking for a warm welcome and employees who care you might as well go somewhere else. I understand that people have their days, but there were way too many instances on our first time...
