Wish I could give 0 stars, as this is a location worthy of evisceration.
This is unfortunate, because I had been a customer of this establishment on numerous occasions and loved the selection. We “pre-ordered” 2 kegs for our wedding reception in late June/early July. When the initial order was made, nothing was officially signed. I asked if I had to make any down payment and was told no, which I was fine with. However, the gentleman working (Monty) merely scribbled down a quick chicken scratch note on a piece of scrap paper. I thought this was all a little odd, but trusted that a keg store knew more about how to manage keg rentals than I would and moved on.
I did have some reservations on that day, mainly because Monty was extremely condescending and tried to convince me out of ordering the kegs. He did not come across as friendly or interested in assisting me in the slightest. In fact, he didn’t even ask what the rental was for. He seemed more inclined to lecture me about “how much more expensive” the kegs would be and how I would need insurance (if he had taken the time to kindly ask, I could have explained we already had liability insurance ready to go). He also dismissively responded to me when I asked him what kegs were available (could’ve just nicely explained they could potentially do kegs of any beer). I can’t say for sure, but it felt like due to my younger age (25), he assumed I was some college party kid not to be taken seriously. Whatever his intent, his initial customer service skills were lacking. Still, like I said I am fairly easy to please and forgiving, so I was willing to cut him some slack, given there likely are a lot of flakey people around the area. Long story short, we end up preordering a keg of North Country Hard Cider and one of Allagash White.
Come August 11th, my wife and I call the store to make sure the kegs are ready. I mention we have ordered a 1/6 keg of Allagash and 1/6 of North Country Cider as we had previously discussed. The gentleman tells me they have no such order and explains maybe I had called the Laconia store. I thought maybe I had made a mistake, so I call Laconia. They tell me they have no such order, after confirming my name (note, when I had previously called Meredith moments ago, they hadn’t even asked my name).
So then I check my old messages, since we had communicated via phone. I find a VM from June 28th in which the order was confirmed by a Monty from Meredith C&K. What do you know! I immediately call back and mention this. Sure enough, it was Monty on the line all along!
I tell him this and he begins denying we had agreed to North Country Hard Cider, saying they hadn’t had it when he called to check. I tell Monty that in the message he had left me he specified they didn’t have Wild Kitty (a specific type of cider that North Country offers), but he told me we could do their original flavor. He began making excuses and denying culpability. When my wife became frustrated due to his lack of accountability, she asked to speak with him. She asked what he would do to make it right (at this point he still has yet to apologize and has only just admitted to making a mistake very begrudgingly). He begins boasting about how he never makes mistakes with keg order, proceeding to tell us he has a customer in line and hangs up on us.
I do understand it may be busy, and perhaps he is even alone. But keep in mind, we were also supposed to be his customers! He could have offered to call back or discuss how this could be resolved, but instead his massive ego got in the way. To his credit, he told us he had a different cider in stock, but it was extremely frustrating to see how little regard he had for putting our reception at stake and his lack of accountability toward messing up our order. My wife even asked why he didn’t just call to let us know, since he began making excuses about how he couldn’t get the North Country cider keg (not what he said in the voicemail and also not what he told us at first when I called). He became...
Read moreIf you are in the area and you want some really good beer, properly stored, this is an absolute standout location. They have every kind of beer you could want, priced extremely fairly. You could get lost in the special refrigerated room when the store the beer. I mean seriously, it was ridiculous how well organized and well stocked that room was. This store is a work of passion for some beer nut. And if you have any questions, the staff is white knowledgeable and helpful. They have a reasonable selection of cigars as well. Although they do not have hard liquor, they do carry hard ciders and lemonades, so you'll be able to find some awesome alternative beverages. My wife was very happy with that section. I was incredibly happy with my Founders imperial stout. What an impressive beer! The next night, I picked up a nitro breakfast stout that wasn't quite as good, but was still top tier. The hours are very nice. Unlike many liquor stores in the area, they stay open until 11 weeknights and midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. We needed to make a couple of late night runs during our stay and really appreciated the hours. Everything else around, including grocery stores,...
Read moreIve been a regular of this store for years, it’s one of the better beer selections in the area to be honest. Just stopped in for a beer and a soda and was asked to remove my medical face mask by the owner/manager behind the register. I did with no protest and asked ‘whys that?’ Wondering why I had to take my protective mask off, mind you the guy hadn’t asked for ID, that would have made sense, to match my face to my ID. He responded by stepping back from the register and Saying “why do you think?!”. I replied with “I don’t know” He then says, “I don’t like people like you, always arguing about nothing.” I said “I’m sorry?” He then told me to leave the store and never return.
Long story short, they lost a customer and I’m pretty confused as to what...
