Maybe I have a bias because the last ramen that I had was from Kame in NYC last week, but this was disgusting. Inedible, cheap, and missing protein.
In my tonkotsu, the chashu pork was mostly just fast without any meat attached. I paid $14 extra for extra pork and brisket ($30+ for one bowl of ramen [NYC prices should have bib gourmand flavors]). Without exaggeration there was a single half inch cube of beef in the entire bowl... I poured out the broth just to look for the meat. I should have taken a picture. I paid for extra pork too and it was not added.
My partner ordered hers spicy and they made mine spicy and hers was super mild. Also, both ramens had far too much fish oil. It was more fish broth than chicken/beef.
To anyone saying this tastes like authentic ramen, I just don't know what to say... I couldn't finish my food. I threw it down the toilet. This was my first and last time going there. 4.9 at the time of this writing? I would suggest making your own fresh ramen at home or going to a bigger urban area than okemos to find what a real properly balanced ramen tastes like.
The only good part was their fried dumplings. So, get those and...
Read moreIf you go to any Asian Cuisine restaurant in the world Let it be Zhen Ramen of Hannah Plaza in Lansing, Michigan. A place of True Hospitality, Cuisine, and Peace. The Owner and Master Chef May is not only one of the best and most versatile cooks I have ever had the privilege of experiencing; but she is also one of the kindest souls I have ever met. Her love for people and what she does can be tasted in her food. Her Ramen, Her Golden Soup, Her Congee, Her Spicy Skewered Chicken among other selections, are full of so much unique flavor. Her small, cozy restaurant is a beacon of peace in a society that is too fast. Here you get to slow down and just experience the joy of a timeless meal. You get food, atmosphere, hospitality, generous portions and above all, you get to support a family owned business that is a true hidden gem of the Community of Lansing. I hope this review makes it not so hidden but known to everyone because food like this is art and poetry and to experience it is an honor and privilege. I have traveled the country and tried many Ramen and Asian cuisine places and I guarantee this one is the best....
Read moreThis would get 5 starts if the pricing wasn’t so expensive. It is a local family owned restaurant. I appreciate that it is always super clean and the food if good but it is inconsistent. The first couple times we went in the owner gave us some kind of sesame seed red bean filled dessert with our check. It was small and she made it seem like it was something she did for everyone as a thank you for dining with us. Like chocolates at Olive Garden or a piece of brownie at Dusty’s (Okemos, MI) but she stopped after the first 2 times. I was disappointed not get any the next time. Since then we have gone back many times, but it does get expensive very fast as there is no kids menu and the cheapest Ramen bowl is $16 before tax and tip. They also don’t charge any less for vegetarian option with Tofu, I am 100% sure that Tofu is much cheaper than any meat on the menu. So if I pick a more expensive bowl because I like the flavors better the price is the same whether I get the meat or tofu. We go back often I just wish they had a pricing that was a little...
