So when someone reviews a restaurant, they are affecting that businesses livelyhood. And most of the places fail in three years. So I try to be constructive. That's not to say this was bad, just that there were some things I would do to improve, but not many. We came late on a Sunday evening about three hours before closing. I think they just opened in May so they may just be getting settled into their groove. The freezer selection of meat was limited, but immediately filled when we walked in. Hot-pot as a buffet is also hit and miss. The types of meat were great including their ribeye. The greens and sauces were plentiful. The sea food was nice including large crab! Their selection of dinner were was also good. Silverware and chopsticks sufficient, but they should add a ladle for scooping out veggies and noodles. A solid spoon only goes so far for that. Napkins could be a better quality, but I imagine those are an easy fix. The decor was well done, and didn't seem like it was home wood components made in the owners garage, which happens a lot in new non-franchized restaurants. As an architect, it looks like they probably had a decent budget. Some nice ceiling tiles, some fake plants, but granite hotpot tables and steel chairs. The vent hoods were painted and not exposed mechanical ducts, (which only us silly architects like industrial finishes), but nicely done. Certainly not Ruth Chris. But nicer than most hotpot places, except the ones in Japan and Asia. As for the price, $33 per person with tax was not bad. All in all I'd say we are glad to have a choice because there are not many hotpots on the Space Coast, Orlando yes, but over here not so many. Glad they are here we will take our friends here. Check this place out and give them a chance, they were nice enough when we pointed out the constructive criticism from having done hotpot all over the world. We didn't do the barbeque, but the...
Read moreThis was our first time trying Korean hot pot, and we recently discovered there’s a K-Pot location right here in Merritt Island—so we decided to give it a shot. We went on a Thursday night around 7 PM (they close at 9 PM), and there were only two other tables with people seated. The concept itself is really cool and unique.
At Tasty K-Pot, you can choose between doing a hot pot (which is basically a soup-style dish, similar to ramen) or a grill experience where you cook your own meats. With the grill option, you have access to a refrigerated section filled with a variety of thinly sliced meats—steak, pork, chicken, seafood, etc. They also offer a buffet that includes dumplings, egg rolls, some pre-cooked meats, rice, lo mein, veggies, and a wide array of sauces for cooking.
You can either do hot pot + buffet or grill + buffet. We had three people in our group—two of us chose the grill, and one did the hot pot.
The person who had the hot pot enjoyed it and felt it was flavorful and fun to make. As for the two of us who did the grill, we enjoyed cooking the meats ourselves, and the quality of the meats from the fridge section was good. However, the buffet left a lot to be desired. The rice looked and tasted very dry, the chicken in sauce was tough and overcooked, and most of the hot items seemed like they had been sitting out for hours.
Given that it’s $30 per person, we expected fresher food and a bit more attention to quality. I imagine the experience would be better on a busier night when the buffet items are refreshed more frequently.
Overall, the concept is great and could be a lot of fun with a crowd, but on a slow night, the food quality just didn’t hold up. We made the best of it by sticking to the grill meats, but for the price, we were hoping for a more consistently...
