came in after the lunch rush at about 2:45pm. I was in town on business and refered here by a co-worker.
The decoration and atmosphere are typical of smaller Mexican restaurants. They played salsa, afrocuban, and Latin jazz over the audio system while I ate. Some of the lights were broken and needed to be fixed. 4/5.
I was seated promply and offered complimentary chips and three different dips: a medium and mild salsa, and a bean dip. The salsas were both a little too salty, but nevertheless tasty. The bean dip may be too runny for most tastes but had a traditional flavor. I liked all three dips. 4/5.
I ordered the Botano estilio Sergio, a seafood platter. It took about 20 minutes for it to get cooked. The fried fish fillets were a little tasteless at first; after adding lime and avocado, they were good. The shrimp were well seasoned, but some were a little overcooked. The rest of the dish was spot on and very tasty. I especially liked the octopus and fried vegetables. The dish was sourounded in a shrimp quesadilla, avocado slices, and citris fruits. It was very beautiful to look at. If you order this make sure to use all the lime and avocado mixed with it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if there were more and bigger peices of octopus and more vegetables. Also most of the garnish didn't add to the meal, it just looked cluttered. I was told that they will make it to order, so if you wanted you can ask for.more vegitables and bigger octopus. 3/5
For desert I had fried ice cream. I ordered it because a customer raved about it while paying. It took another 10 or so minutes to prepare. The ice cream was one of the better parts of the meal. It had a little too much cream and I didn't know what to do with the fried tortilla it was served it. It might be better if it were covered in cinnamon sugar. 4/5
Service was okay. I came at a slow time and was asked how my meal was a few times. It took a bit longer than normal to get my food. My drink was promptly filled when empty. 3/5.
It was a little expensive compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area, but I ordered more expensive items off of the menu. I probably wouldn't have eaten here if my company hadn't paid for it. I might eat here again but I don't think I would order the same item off the menu....
Read moreThe chili Verde burrito was tasty. A la carte, it'll cost you $10.99. That's definitely plenty of food!
Did you know that if you'd like rice and beans with that burrito, the price suddenly becomes $22.99. Rice and beans are $12, but a massive meat-filled burrito is $11? I'm still very confused.
The lady got very irritated with my shock and confusion and decided to not charge me $25 (which included tax) for a burrito. That was nice and appreciated. When I was able to pick my jaw off the floor, I asked why rice and beans were $12. I got told that $22.99 minus $10.99 is NOT $12. She kept saying, "That's why I asked you if you wanted rice and beans." She asked, but it was very quickly glossed over. I called and said, "Hello, I'd like a chile Verde burrito, please." Then she responded, "Rice and beans okay?" I assumed she was just double checking with me on those items, since some people have rice and/or bean aversions. I expected to be charged a few dollars more, but $12?!?!? BEWARE, because the online menu shows a price of around $14 for the burrito plus rice and beans.
I'd like to give one star for their somewhat dishonest and insane pricing, but food was pretty good. Also, they ended up not charging the full amount, but the loss of beans and rice in my meal probably only set them back about 29 cents. I gave them a tip, even though they were fairly rude about the...
Read morePrices are RIDICULOUS for Mexican food. The food is Good, but nothing spectacular and not anything special. Pass on this restaurant. Plenty of other choices that are delicious and more cost appropriate with owners not seeking to gouge their customers because they can. Mexican food is some of the cheapest food to make. The ambience in the restaurant is very basic and pretty simple. If it wasn't for a few posters that were up, you wouldn't even know you were in a Mexican restaurant. Almost similar to seating at a walk-in order Chinese restaurant or Subway. I'm a big foodie and NEVER mind paying for Time and expertise that it takes to prepare that food not to mention the whole dining experience that usually goes with it. However, when food is so overpriced that it's ridiculous, $13 for a Michelada? $13 for one Mexican beer with a splash of Clamato? I refuse To give in to greedy people who overcharge because they can. At this point becomes about integrity and principle. Just because you CAN take advantage of somebody because they have money doesn't mean it's right and it still needs to be called out it. And a big FYI, for those visiting Mesquite, the Del Taco Off of Pioneer and Falcon Ridge Has some pretty amazing El...
