This place was a bit of a surprise. When my family was trying to figure out what to do on a Saturday morning before going out of town, someone said let's go to the Donkey Museum. My first impression was what could they possibly have at a Donkey Museum that could be even remotely interesting and fun for the kids. It was free to enter, and the staff was really knowledgeable and made our experience fun. They really know a lot about donkeys. There is a section that is dedicated to how donkey's were instrumental during war time engagements and had lots of donated pieces of equipment that was interesting to see. They also had glass cabinets that were full of donkey trinkets and figurines that had been donated over the years. I think the part of the museum that my kids had an absolute blast with, had to be the rock sleuthing area. I think I said that right. But they are able to buy a bag of dirt, and they have three sizes of bags you could get. And then you can go and basically pan for gold, however there is no gold to be found. But there was lots of cool rocks that my kids found in the bags as they sifted the dirt out of them in this cool old mining water trough experience. This was almost like Vegas for my kids. They kept wanting more bags so they could try and find the cooler rocks. It was worth it to see how much fun they were having. I'll definitely go back here again just to say hi to the staff they were really...

Fun fact about me, if you've been in Vegas long enough, you remember the lions that used to roar and the peacocks sing out in the desert by the M Resort. Well it was an animal sanctuary that I worked at for a long time. And my love for Donkeys started there. So whenever I see anything related to a Donkey I need to check it out.
I was driving back from the river and saw Donkey History Museum on the sign. I knew it was a must to put it in my GPS and go check it out immediately.
Upon entering was quickly greeted and given the run down of the Museum. If you are into reading and really taking your time this is the perfect place to learn about the impact that Donkeys have had on the US over the course of time.
There is so much memorabilia throughout the Museum that is all things Donkey. You can even watch a video in their media area which gives more insights.
Would most def recommend especially if you are into supporting charitable causes and animal sanctuaries. There is merch for sale along with a faux panning for gold water exhibit for a charge. The cost to enter the Museum is free.

Read moreThe museum is small but the work they are doing at the donkey rescue is enormous! The history is mostly in photographs and the glass cases filled with knickknacks and toys. There is also a wonderful new mining sleuth and some great selfie stations. When we visited, there was only a young gal at the register ringing up gift shop purchases and she was very quiet! There's no interaction from staff so looking at the pictures and a quick glance at the souvenirs only takes a few minutes. If you love donkeys, it's your...
