My husband & I have been big fans of China Rose for almost 20 years we eat there at least a few times a month, the last couple of times the food quality was still fresh but the taste has really changed, it's changed allot, I'm wondering if it's different owners or something, we order the same thing just about every single time so I think we would notice, the fried rice is old and they don't put anything like onion sprouts or egg in it anymore and it has a burnt taste now, I ordered chicken & broccoli which usually is nice chunks of chicken in a brown sauce with broccoli and what I got was chicken slivers with a heavily garlic tasting white sauce with no other flavor it had broccoli and carrots in it so this isn't the chicken & broccoli I'm use to getting from them, the egg rolls use to be some of the best now I can't stomach them, the shrimp toast so greasy can't eat it, cho cho so dry, over fried to the point they were inedible, crab Rangoon's over fried and stale tasting very hard , I don't know what's happened but really wish they hadn't changed the food so drastically they were 1 of the best Chinese food spots in Metairie, I really hate to buy guess we'll be in search of a new place to try really hate that we are but can't continue to waste money on food that isn't...

My friend and I went to this establishment on 10/19/23 for lunch, our total bill was $28 and some change. I put up $20, my friend 2 $5 bill and 4-$1.00 bills ($34). The waiter comes back to the table, picks up the money and asks if we needed change back, we say no change thank you and the thanked us. We sit for a minute while I drained more tea the. We get up for leave. Once in the vehicle, we take a few minutes to open our fortune cookies when the waitress comes out frantically looking around with a ticket and $ in her hand. I tell my friend that a customer must have left their change. The waitress goes in and comes back out but this time headed towards my truck, my friend opens the door and the waitress shows her the ticket and says that the cashier said we’re shortened them, we left $24. Mind you the waiter asked if we needed change!! No on there would admit to taking it, so my friend paid the alleged difference. Would you believe the cashier asked if she wanted to leave a tip. Seriously? Go insult someone else’s intelligence. There’s a thief amongst this...

After sitting down at our table, we immediately noticed all the silverware was dirty, not old, not covered with a patina, dirty. With little effort we cleaned it, so they just don't care enough. Should've left immediately.

It took an hour and a half, after asking directly four times, to be told that my entree was not available today. Even though when I ordered it I pointed to it, she repeated it to me, exactly, and then wrote it down. Four times, I asked to her face, "not yet" was the best answer I got, if I got one. "Elder Fog" is a fun little quirk of Chinese culture my Asian friends and coworkers have pointed out before. Pretend they didn't hear or understand you and just walk away. She said sorry and immediately turned and walked away. Follow her example if you ever find yourself at the threshold of China Rose.

With such carelessness, disrespect, and inhospitality they greatly dishonor their...

Sadly, this was a very bad experience of having lo mein at China Rose. I ordered shrimp lo mein and as you all can see they had veins in it. I have never seen anyone serving shrimp with veins in it. I have not been to china so I don’t know how they serve it there but in US I guess people are serious about hygiene. Ever wondered what’s in those veins? It is actually the lower digestive tract of shrimp and if you know it is basically shrimp poop in simple words. I and my girlfriend just lost our appetite after looking at our food. I asked the server and she said “WE NEVER REMOVE THE VEIN”. She didn’t even let me finish what I was talking. I don’t call this a good customer service. I have read other reviews where people liked the service and I didn’t expect it from them. All I can say is they’re never seeing me again. Good LICK with that shrimp poop everyone!

This may be a hidden jewel. Pretty nice little restaurant hiding in an isolated area. Friendly staff. We were offered two sets of menus - a regular Americanized menu and another one with only authentic Chinese dishes printed in both Mandarin and English. We took the authentic menu and I was very impressed with their variety. Highly recommend: 1) West Lake beef soup (西湖牛肉羹, which was lightly seasoned that we love), 2) cumin lamb ribs (孜然羊排 my husband's fav), and 3) stir-fry greens (清炒豌豆苗 my personal fav). Not our favs but still good: 4) Eggplant with sweet sauce (鱼香茄子), and 5) some pork belly dish (虎皮肉). Sorry that I forgot the English name but I took a picture. The last two were a bit too sweet for us, so next time I'll try the other eggplant dish with fresh garlic without sweet sauce.

China Rose has LITERALLY my ALL TIME FAVORITE dumplings! I do not know what I would've done during the back end of this quarantine without this place available to do pickups. The soft, rich-flavored pork on the inside practically melts in your mouth.. And some dumpling places do way more of the outside part than the meat inside, but China Rose gets it just right. You'd be hard pressed to convince me of another place in Baton Rouge with better dumplings than this...
