I hate to leave a bad review on this place, because I used to love it so much. The experience I had tonight though, was lackluster. First of all, they have queso fundido on the menu. When you order it, chile con queso comes out without them saying anything about the menu change. I guess they figure their now typically white clientele don't know the difference between chile con queso and queso fundido, so why change the menu right? Wrong, that's a violation of the basic culinary principal of truth in menu. If you have something on the menu, it should come out as described and not as a completely different dish with no warning. Secondly, the combo plate I ordered was 10.75 and I asked if I could substitute a lengua taco for my chicken taco and my server said that was ok. He didn't tell me I'd be charged for a more expensive combo that came with options that he did not offer me, so when my bill came I was paying two more dollars for the same 10 dollar food just because I wanted a lengua taco, and didn't get any of the more expensive combo's options, and also paid the additional upcharge for the lengua taco. I'm not complaining about the two dollars, because I love supporting local business. It's the principal of the matter, honestly. Also, the beef flauta was mostly cheese with a little beef which is another ripoff. Will not return here for a while, as the quality of the food has gone down...
Read moreWhat sort of Mexican eatery doesn't provide each table chips and salsa? This place. You pay for a small bowl of tortilla chips and semi stale, watery pico de gallo. Pay again if you want more. The shrimp taco consisted of a few tasteless pre-cooked, recently thawed, barely warm unadorned shrimp in two tortillas. Pulled pork taco was suspiciously like the frozen stuff one sees at the big box stores, with a lot of BBQ sauce, and certainly not Mexican BBQ sauce. When requested, the wait staff, brought 3 types of hot sauce: red, green (from bottled Herdez), and of all things, Thai Chile oil (plastic bottled stuff). The management obviously has a profound understanding of Mexican chile sauces. Let us be honest people, the medicore at best food that attempts, but utterly fails to represent Mexican cuisine offered by Taqueria Corona is simply not worth what they charge. Bad food, and poor service. Don't waste your hard earned money. There are other much better, eateries locally that offer more authentic Mexican cuisine at far better prices. Not...
Read moreWe really like Taqueria Corona. Over many years we have eaten at all of the Taqueria Corona location, but mostly this one on Severn because we live nearby. The food has always fantastic and had a wonderful freshness. I always look forward to going again. We often share the Numero Tres combination. It is enough to share, and you get to select your own meat in each of the items.
A few years ago I would have rated Taqueria Corona 5 stars. The staff at all locations was always very attentive and friendly, like they were genuinely glad you were there. On recent visits the food was still great, but the service was not as enthusiastic. On one visit we were seated at least 5 minutes before one of the 3 servers chatting at the counter came to take our order; we were one of only 2-3 tables. I have probably had to wait longer other places, but it is a pet peeve of mine when I am kept waiting while whoever is supposed to be helping me - server/cashier/other employee - chats and laughs...
