Extremely dishearten that I have to write this review, but it needs to be known, especially for anyone that is using Gambino's shipping option. If I could, I would give them zero stars. I've had their King Cakes before as I was born and raised in Louisiana. Unfortunately, I enlisted and PCS overseas, but I always make a point to have a King Cake shipped to me. Everytime I recieved one, it was always overnighted, had dry ice packs, bubble wrapped. Whenever I would open those packages, the cake was perfect! Just if as I ordered them the same day! For this year, I decided to order two in advance for a birthday party. I requested the cakes be delivered on the 12th. On the 6th, I got an email saying that a label had been made for the package 1st Red Flag. I thought nothing of it because maybe the label had to be made ahead of time. On the 8th, I got a notice that the package was picked up. 2nd Red Flag. Again, I thought the cakes were just going to get here early. On the 11th, I got an email saying it still hasn't made to my area. Suddenly, on the eve of the 12th, the package arrived! Just in time for the party! When I went to open the package, I was overwhelmed with the smell of yeast and strong odor of spoiled food. These are photos of the cakes. It was nothing but a spoiled mushy mess. I had to run to a random bakery at the last minute to get a store bought cake and hide the cakes, but one of the guest found them in the kitchen. If I had known this was going to happened, I would have never spent $100 on this. It was hot, melted, and crushed. It's unsafe to eat! For comparison, I have also included a picture of the previous King Cake I got shipped to me from home. It's a night and day difference.

Gambino’s Bakery has been a cherished tradition for my family, and I can confidently say they make the BEST King Cakes! Originally from the New Orleans area but now living in Northern Virginia, we’ve kept the tradition alive by ordering their King Cakes every year starting right after the New Year and continuing through Mardi Gras. My daughter, who just turned nine, insists on having a King Cake for her birthday every year. It’s become such a hit that we always get a separate vanilla cake for the other kids at her party, just in case they’re not familiar with King Cake. Without fail, the kids end up preferring Gambino’s King Cake over the regular cake—it’s just that good! What really stands out about Gambino’s is the freshness and quality. They ship their King Cakes via FedEx, and you can select a specific delivery day to ensure they arrive fresh. For us, it’s usually a two-day delivery, but we’ve had cakes expedited for next-day delivery before, and they never disappoint. Gambino’s Bakery isn’t just about the cake; it’s about keeping a part of my Louisiana roots alive while creating new traditions with my family in Virginia. Their King Cakes are a highlight of our year, and I can’t recommend them enough to anyone looking for an authentic taste of Mardi Gras. If you’re considering ordering a King Cake, look no further than Gambino’s. They truly set the standard! (King Cakes that are shipped arrive with the icing and sprinkles packaged separately. This clever approach ensures that the icing doesn’t stick to the inside of the box during transport. It’s a smart move on Gambino’s part, because I’ve seen what can happen to an already iced King Cake after shipping.)

Gambinos is the absolute best bakery in the New Orleans area! Hands down! They’re a true institution and even made my parents wedding cake back in the 70s and my mom still swears by them. We moved out of state when I was about 5 but growing up, we’d always have their king cakes, doberge cakes, and almond flavored “wedding cake” cakes shipped to us in Florida. I’m now 37 and live in Maryland, and either ship their cakes up here (they taste just as delish and travel well!) or whenever I visit my grandparents in Metairie, I *must* stop by there in person! They’re so helpful and friendly in the shop (or over the phone or email) and everything is always consistently fresh and delish! I’ve also spent 20 years attempting to find a local almond flavored cake or try various almond flavored cakes while traveling, and Gambinos is still holding onto that #1 spot by a bunch- so much so, that when I visited my grandparents in Metairie this September, my husband surprise ordered me an almond cake for my birthday (he isn’t from New Orleans, but in our 18 years together- he knows that Gambinos is simply the best and there isn’t a better birthday cake around) so I picked it up in store, carried home the cake as my carry-on on the flight, and had it on my birthday this past year (and it was 100% worth it, delish as always, !)

UPDATE: I was extremely disappointed in the lack of Customer Service from Gambino's! Big Time

Weeks before Thanksgiving I order a Half Lemon Half Chocolate Doberge Cake for my family visiting for Thanksgiving. The order processed and charged my Credit Card with 2 day shipping to Cumming Georgia and my order number. When I did not receive it two days later I called and left a message and also emailed the store. The young women said in the email everything was fine and I should receive my cake the next day and not to worry. The next day came and went still no cake. I again called the store and was told 2 days before Thanksgiving that the new girl screwed up the order and I would not be getting the cake...and my money would be refunded back to my card...Well what does someone have to do to get a cake? Their attitude was horrible just like oh well sorry the new girl screwed up :( No apology & No discount ) They just did not care....

I should have ordered from Haydell's lesson learned ♥

Details for order #133076 Hi Lisa,

Here are the details of your order placed on November 18, 2024:

Born and raised in New Orleans. Gambino's has always been one of my favorite Bakeries. We now live in Atlanta and just recently went to a crawfish boil at a work friends house who was raised in Metairie. I ordered a beautiful dessert tray from Gambino's and had it shipped to me here. I arrived in wonderful condition in a white ice chest (which we later used for left over crawfish) When I arrived at the boil everyone that was from Metairie was cheering and ate ever last bit of the delicious desserts. Luv the turtles ;) The tray was a huge hit...thank you guys for giving us here in Atlanta a taste from back home. Warmest Regards, Lisa...
