Black Sheep Coffee, the name might make you think of the family outcast, the one no one really talks about. But here? It’s the complete opposite. Black Sheep stands out from the herd by doing something bold: introducing the world’s first specialty-grade Robusta beans to the market. They’re true innovators in the coffee game, and now you don’t need a passport to enjoy it, you can find them right here in Coconut Grove, Miami.
In a country where Starbucks usually rules the scene, Black Sheep flips the script. They’re serving up quality coffee with a creative twist, and it makes the whole experience way more fun.
I visited for the first time on a hot Miami summer day, so I went straight for an iced pistachio latte. Based on a custom Decaf Robusta blend with rich notes of chocolate, caramel, and a hint of tobacco, all swirled into oat milk, pistachio syrup, a cloud of whipped cream, and topped with pistachio crumbles. My new coffee obsession. Shout-out to Bryton, the thoughtful barista who made it feel like it was designed just for me.
I didn’t stop there. Alexa and Angelina completed the order with a classic cappuccino and a Norwegian Banofi waffle. Layered with creamy Banofi spread, fresh banana slices, and a caramel-cinnamon vibe that I’m still dreaming about. Next time, I’ve already got my eye on the matcha waffle. Speaking of matcha, their menu doesn’t stop at the basics lineups, think of passion fruit, lychee, turmeric. My checklist is growing fast.
All the engagement with this new concept evolved to the next level, thanks to Yanina, who shared the story behind Black Sheep’s name and Robusta’s bold character. I love when a brand’s identity ties so perfectly to its product. Here, you feel it in each cup: earthy, woody, sips of coffee shots. Yanina is like the lead shepherdess of this flock, she radiates the brand’s caffeine energy as if it were her own, and it’s contagious.

Read moreWhen I saw this place was opening up, I wanted to be excited. Flash forward to trying it for the first time and I was unfortunately disappointed.
Service was pretty subpar. They have these little dehumanizing tablets to order from but you can order at the front if you’re paying cash or want to use a student discount. The baristas noticed me and kept walking back and forth for a while without saying anything, not even a “we’ll be right with you.” I am very patient but I hate the feeling of being ignored. Maybe they’re used to everyone ordering at the tablets but that’s no excuse for poor hospitality.
The matcha I ordered was smooth (no clumps) but weak. If I’m paying almost $7 for a matcha, I don’t want it to taste like milk. I want it to taste like matcha. The flavors are all artificial and heavily colored syrups; there are so many better places for matcha that use real ingredients that cost the same or less than this place.
Can’t speak to the coffee itself but from smelling the beans they had in store I wasn’t impressed. I may try the coffee one day if I’m desperate enough but unlikely based on my matcha experience.
This place is like a UK version of Starbucks, but worse. Expect Dunkin levels of coffee quality and customer service with Starbucks prices.
On a positive note, the Polaroid dog...
Read moreStumbled upon this new coffee shop after walking past a bold sign saying “best coffee you’ll ever have in your life.” So I go in and order the pumpkin spice latte. Unfortunately took one sip and was thrown off by the amount of syrup and flavor. There was no way I could actually drink it. (I should note I’m actually a fan of holiday flavors.) I asked if I could switch to a regular latte instead because the flavor was simply…not good. The 3 girls behind the counter looked at each other bewildered before landing at “no”. It was a strange meeting of the minds as I was just standing there. They said it’s happened with other customers before and they shouldn’t, which is also not a good sign.
In conclusion - definitely not the best coffee I’ve ever had but even worse customer service. Sadly tossed my $10 beverage with tip in the trash...
