âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ Don Maguey Mexican Restaurant â Miami
If youâre looking for authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable Mexican food in Miami, Don Maguey is the place you need to visit. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, with friendly staff and a lively vibe that makes you feel right at home. But the real magic is in the foodâeach dish is prepared with care, bold flavors, and just the right touch of authenticity.
Queso Fundido This is hands down one of the best starters on the menu. The queso fundido arrives sizzling hot, perfectly melted, and loaded with rich, gooey cheese that stretches with every bite. Pair it with their warm tortillas, and youâll find yourself scraping every last bit from the skillet. Itâs creamy, indulgent, and sets the tone for the rest of the meal.
Quesabirria Tacos Don Magueyâs quesabirria is a standout. The beef is slow-cooked to perfectionâtender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The tortillas are dipped and grilled with cheese, giving them a golden, crispy edge that complements the meat beautifully. Served with a side of rich consommĂŠ for dipping, itâs the ultimate comfort food experience. Every bite combines savory, cheesy, and slightly smoky flavors that youâll crave long after.
Short Rib Tacos The short rib tacos are a showstopper. The meat falls right off the bone, incredibly tender and marinated with deep, bold spices. Each taco is layered with fresh toppings that balance the richness of the beef, and the tortillas are soft yet sturdy enough to hold it all together. These tacos are a perfect example of why Don Maguey stands out in Miamiâs competitive Mexican food scene.
Chicken Quesadillas Even a classic like the chicken quesadilla gets elevated here. The chicken is seasoned just rightâjuicy, flavorful, and never dry. Combined with perfectly melted cheese inside a crisp, golden tortilla, itâs simple yet incredibly satisfying. Served with fresh guacamole and salsa, itâs a dish that appeals to both traditionalists and those looking for bold flavors.
Overall Experience Don Maguey isnât just about foodâitâs about the experience. From start to finish, youâll be treated to top-notch service, fresh ingredients, and authentic flavors that highlight the heart of Mexican cuisine. Whether youâre going for a casual dinner with friends or a family outing, this restaurant delivers on every level.
đ Highly recommend: Start with the queso fundido, dive into the quesabirria tacos, and donât leave without trying the short rib tacos. Pair your meal with one of their refreshing margaritas, and youâll have a dining experience worth coming back for...
Read moreAs someone born and raised in Mexico and now living in Miami, I was genuinely excited to hear about a new Mexican restaurant opening in South Miamiâespecially one not located in Homestead. I had seen a lot of buzz on social media and was really looking forward to trying it out.
The atmosphere did not disappoint: the decor was vibrant, the ambiance inviting, and the Mexican music playing in the background set the tone beautifully. The menu was full of promising options, and the staff was welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately, the excitement faded once the food arrived.
To be clear, the food wasnât badâit was decentâbut as a Mexican, I can confidently say it did not reflect authentic Mexican flavors. While the presentation was nice, the taste did not match the expectations set by the restaurantâs branding and hype.
For instance, the esquites were served cold and lacked depth of flavor. It tasted like canned corn, which immediately raised a red flag. Still, I remained hopeful and looked forward to trying their signature quesabirrias. However, the consomĂŠ was noticeably light in colorâcloser to tomato broth than the deep, rich red that comes from slow-cooked birria. The flavor confirmed it: watered down with some spice, but missing the richness and intensity that defines a true birria consomĂŠ.
I also tried the chicken with mole, which was marketed as âMole OaxaqueĂąo.â Unfortunately, the chicken was dry and the mole lacked balanceâit was served cold and lacked the complex, layered flavors you expect from a well-crafted mole.
Overall, while the food was edible, it didnât deliver the authentic experience I was hoping for. Given the price point, I expected a higher level of quality and flavor. It feels as though the restaurant audience is unfamiliar with true Mexican cuisine rather than those of us who know and grew up with it.
I say this with respect and honesty: authenticity matters, especially when youâre representing a culture and its food traditions. I hope this feedback is taken in the spirit of wanting to see better representation of real Mexican...
Read moreIâm always on the lookout for a good, authentic Mexican restaurant. This is the place!
I came here on a Saturday night. It was busy. I had to park on the street where it said NO PARKING. But everyone was parked there, as their parking lot is very small.
There was a 25 minute wait, even though it was only for one person. It was about 6pm. They called my cell phone, as I went to sit in my car. Thereâs nowhere to wait. Sadly, they told me that there was âno TO-Go service as they were fullâ! That was very disappointing as I had told my kids Iâd bring them all back something and theyâd all chosen things off of the menu. Once I was sat, however, the lady asked me if I was there for dine in, or to-go?!? đ¤ So I guess they could have done take away? đ¤ˇđźââď¸
They sat me at the bar. I ordered the Don elotes and the mole chicken enchiladas. They brought me a basket of chips with red and green salsa. Both salsas were pretty spicy. The red was more spicy. The chips are pretty bland, but something to hold you off while you wait for your food.
The elotes arrived very hot. I had to wait a while to be able to eat them. They were pretty good.
The mole chicken enchiladas came out shortly after. They came with a side of rice and refried beans. Everything was delicious! I was only able to eat half of everything and I was stuffed!
They have beer, wine, sangria, and margaritas. BUT, the margaritas are just from a bottle of premixed stuff that you can buy in Publix. They just shake it in a shaker and pour it into a salted rim glass. They are NOT handmade margaritas. So, I just had water.
I was happily surprised that everyone spoke perfect English. The waitress who took care of me was great! Very helpful and professional!
The reviews all say that people spend $10-20 a person. I donât know how. My bill was $32 before tax or tip.
I would definitely love to go back and try some other menu items. Everything looks good. I would go on a day thatâs not so...
