Sometimes, the best culinary adventures lie just around the corner. Habana Vieja Restaurant transported me to the vibrant streets of Cuba without ever leaving my neighborhood. From the warm welcome to the last bite of flavorful food, it was an experience that had me yearning for more.
The aroma of spices and garlic greeted me as I stepped into the cozy space. The dƩcor, with its bright accents and vintage Cuban posters, immediately set the mood. I felt like I had stumbled into a bustling little eatery tucked away in the heart of Havana.
The menu is a love letter to classic Cuban cuisine. I opted for the Ropa Vieja, a traditional dish of slow-cooked, and fried, shredded beef. The beef was fork-tender and bursting with savory goodness, a perfect match for the sweet fried plantains and perfectly seasoned black beans and rice.
My dining companion raved about their fresh fish of the day. It was pan-seared to perfection, with a crispy skin and flaky, delicate flesh. Every bite spoke of quality ingredients and a skilled hand in the kitchen.
No Cuban meal is complete without a taste of something sweet, and Habana Vieja didn't disappoint. We shared a generous slice of flan, its silky custard texture and caramelized sugar topping the perfect ending to our meal.
The service throughout was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall warmth of the experience. Habana Vieja isn't just about the food ā though it's certainly delicious ā it's about transporting you to another place and time. If you're craving authentic Cuban flavors and a dose of vibrant island spirit, Habana Vieja is an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy daughter and I came in. Iām not from Florida so, I was looking for a Cuban restaurant to eat at. We looked up restaurants based on the area I we were in. When we first got there we were seated away from others far in the back. Which, I thought was weird. Then, it was a noise right next to our table that so loud. I still just tried to ignore the noise. However that wasnāt the issue. There was this man just standing in the corner watching us, with really bad energy. Our server came over slamming our menus at our table. I notice the man still standing watching us with this angry energy at that point my spirit kept saying get up and leave. My daughter ordered an appetizer and the server came back slamming the salt on our table. My daughter ordered a milk shake. After my daughter asked for the sauce for her appetizer he then rolled his eyes. I immediately told her we were not welcomed in that establishment. It was weird experiencing that since it was MLK bday. But I could feel that hate and anger from these people. My spirit told my daughter not to drink her milk shake and to leave. I asked for our ticket and asked for order to be canceled. At that point they started looking stupid! The people in the parking lot on their bikes. Asked why are you leaving so soon, you just got here. I told them apparently my kind is not welcomed there. Do not go here! I felt a energy I have never felt before in my life! This people are evil. I would never lie to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy meal at this restaurant was an abject joke. We arrived and were seated. The food arrived on time but I found what I hope to be chest hair under my breaded steak. It was a small, curly, black hair. I calmly notified the waiter and he rudely looked at me and asked me if I intended to send it back. I couldn't believe that the older waiter expected me to sit there and consume a meal that was: A. Cold and B. Had a hair in it. I had to demand that the food be sent back and that I receive a new plate. When it arrived almost an hour later, it was also cold. The smug waiter asked me if everything was fine. I ate half of it and asked for the check. I gave the waiter exactly 15%, which was generous for the contentious and mean-spirited service I received. Instead, he made a big to-do in the middle of the restaurant that I had given him 50 cents as part of the 6.50 dollar tip. He actually gave me the fifty cents back and told me to save them. I had more than a few choice words for the manager and was offered compensation for the bad experience (or additional food) but the mediocre fare and lousy experience soured my impression of that place forever. Mediocre, unsanitary food. Horrendous service. There are numerous better Cuban restaurants for authentic, skilled Cuban cuisine like: Havana Harry's, Sergio's, Versailles and more. ...
