As someone who works in the area, I find myself returning to this incredible spot at least once a week, and it never disappoints. Every visit feels like an opportunity to experience something new and exciting, whether it's a beautifully crafted gelato or a daily surprise that’s always brimming with creativity and thoughtfulness.
Today, I had the pleasure of indulging in one of their pistachio pastries—an absolute revelation. The pastry itself was light yet rich, with the unmistakable earthy depth of the pistachios elevating the flavor to new heights. The real surprise, though, was the tart raspberry filling nestled inside, a perfect contrast that brought a bright, refreshing acidity to balance the richness of the nuts. It was a harmonious blend of flavors that showed true culinary artistry.
Pairing it with a double shot espresso, which was brewed to perfection, completed the experience. The espresso was smooth, robust, and just the right amount of bold—another testament to the skill and care behind every item crafted here.
I honestly don’t understand why the line isn’t out the door, given the consistent excellence on display. Chef Floriano continues to impress me with every visit, showing a true commitment to the craft. I look forward to returning next week, as I'm eager to see what he has perfectly curated next. If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and make the trip—you...
Read moreI’m writing this review because I truly want San Lorenzo to stick around — their ice cream is absolutely delicious. When they first opened, they offered this insanely good ice cream at a moderate price, and you’d leave feeling like you’d just gotten away with something.
But things have changed. Today, I paid $25 for two small cups (the attendant even overcharged me), and even without the mistake, the prices have climbed into “ouch” territory. In February 2025, a small cup was $6.50 — not cheap, but worth every penny. Now, the experience feels different.
In a place like Coral Gables, with its already tough retail prices, consistency and value matter just as much as quality. No matter how amazing the ice cream is, if a family of five walks out feeling overcharged, they’re unlikely to return. And in this rough summer where so many businesses are struggling, I’d hate to see San Lorenzo join the list of closures.
It’s better to over-deliver and have customers leave happy than to leave them feeling robbed. Right now, you have to be lucky enough to get a generous scoop; otherwise, you’re paying ten bucks for two bites. I hope they can find a way back to that original magic — because the ice cream really...
Read moreSan Lorenzo Gelato at The Plaza in Coral Gables lives up to its reputation as one of the world’s top gelato spots. With both a main shop and a nearby pop-up, it’s easy to get your fix. I sampled a few flavors, but the San Lorenzo flavor was the standout—light, floral, and beautifully unconventional with its delicate rosemary notes. The lower sugar content lets the flavors shine, making it a refreshing and sophisticated treat.
Beyond gelato, they offer stunning French pastries. I tried the chocolate with coconut and the chocolate with passion fruit. The coconut was too sweet for my taste, but the passion fruit was spot-on, balancing richness and acidity perfectly. However, at $12 each, they’re on the pricey side.
Gelato, on the other hand, feels fairly priced for the quality. Overall, San Lorenzo is a must-visit. That signature flavor alone makes it one of the best...
