If its your first and last time yambos is great . Im a repeat customer since I was a child. So If it ain't broke you don't fix it . A suitable quote for yambo . They've made no major improvements in my six years of eating their food. But its not like they need to either . But the more you go here the more you'll become disappointed with the quality of their food . But on a positive the more you come the more you learn thru trial and error.
First off unless your actually a central American. NEVER!!! Order any of the food behind the glass. Trust me that stuff is disgusting , past its hold time and cold . Im talking to you tourist flocking from the north and west that speak no Spanish.
The food that matters is behind the nice ladies . The carne asada (short rib ), pinto gallo arroz (red rice and beans ), platanos (plantains) & queso frito ( fried cheese) . I cant stress this enough unless your into the central American gastronomy DO NOT order any of the ready to serve food behind the glass. Trust me . It gross.
Now the food behind the ladies that is constantly fresh and being cooked can and will let you down. YES!!! You will be let down by fresh food . It happens. But here's the trick! You have to!! stress them on how fresh you want it.
Do not be shy their food isn't cheap . So your demand for quality shouldn't be either . If you speak no Spanish beware YOU WILL GET GOT!! Your in miami therfore your no longer in America. No restraunt in this city has to meet your expectations nor attempt to.
So here's the trick . You have to ask for the pinto de gallo ( red rice) on the top. The very nice and polite ladys will give you scrapes and grains that'll break your teeth from the bottom of the pan. The rice on top in the center is where your moneys worth.
Now the carne asada (short rib) its usually 4/10 they give you a nice juicy cut . If you don't get one good & tender they will give you something resembling dog sh*t. So ask for thee most recent off the grill. This could raise your chance to atleast 5/10.
Now the queso frito (deep fried cheese) you have to ask it to be hot . Make it clear you do not want cold cheese fried cheese . If it doesn't flab around when she picks it up. If you don't see oil drip off of it . If it doesn't look a little shiny . Trust me your just chewing on a salty sponge . They know it and I know it but you won't!!
I wouldn't feed their desserts nor local juices to a blind on deathrow. They will offer you this strange central American cole slaw. Which hey if you like it . I love it. But I know for a fact . I've seen a finger nails , dead Flys or hairs in the buckets . Its served from .
Be safe and...
Read moreA friend and I were looking for a vegetarian-friendly place to have lunch in Little Havana. We discovered, however, that there aren’t many vegetarian-friendly places to eat in Little Havana. Somehow, we stumbled upon this place that has a total of three vegetarian dishes on the menu.
My friend and I both ordered an empanada each and additionally he ordered the one other vegetarian item while I ordered the other. Our server did not speak a word of English, so using Google Translate we asked if she could have the cook put cheese and onions in our empanadas? “No”.
We also ordered two exotic drinks off their menu and plantain chips.
Except for the drinks, all the items were freshly prepared. I have to believe, however, that Nicaraguans get their taste buds tickled through their meat: the vegetarian food was completely tasteless. I suppose they don’t use any spices in Nicaragua. My Miami Beach place has a Venezuelan bakery across the street and they serve delicious vegetarian empanadas, so I know that Latin vegetarian food can be tasty.
This place appears to be very popular among locals, so the meat items must be delicious. Additionally, the inside of the restaurant (there are two seating spaces: al-fresco and inside) is very nicely decorated. I’d have to say that the our visit was worth it just to view the interior and to soak in the atmosphere.
Vegetarians, however, can safely skip this place without feeling left out.
The drinks were delicious and the plantain chips came right out...
Read moreMy visit to Yambo Restaurant was truly a highlight of my time in Miami, offering an experience that far surpassed even more expensive dining spots! From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere felt like a warm, close-knit community. There was a wonderful buzz of people laughing, talking, and genuinely enjoying themselves, creating an unmatched vibe that was incredibly inviting and authentic. It truly felt like a place where locals gather, and that added so much to its charm.
The food at Yambo is simply outstanding. Every dish I tried was packed with authentic, vibrant flavors, tasting incredibly fresh and homemade. It’s clear they take immense pride in their cuisine. I was particularly impressed by the generous portions and the sheer deliciousness of everything. For the quality and taste, the value is incredible; we spent around $36 for our entire meal, and it was hands down the best food we had in Miami. It easily outshone places where we spent over $100.
Beyond the food, the service was fantastic – attentive and friendly, making the dining experience even more pleasant. The convenience of their 24-hour pickup front is also a huge plus. Yambo isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience, almost like a little museum with so much to see. I would honestly come back to Miami just to eat at Yambo again. It's a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious, authentic food and an unbeatable community atmosphere. Highly,...
