I've been a long time patron of The Rio Diner and used to heap praises for its good food at reasonable prices. However, in the past few years I have experienced a less than accommodating reception here at times, punctuated with outright rudeness. I thought I would hold back on a negative review trying to chalk it up to simply, "A Bad Day/Night" but no more excuses for inexcusable attitudes towards customers who deserve better.
Firstly, the last time I dined here was a Saturday night. The hours advertise that the diner closes at 9 PM on that night, awfully pedestrian for weekend hours but hey, that is what it is, granted. I arrived at about 8:15 PM and inquired beforehand if whether or not that would be too late a time to dine. I was assured it was not, otherwise I would have simply opted for takeout or another option.
The food that came out was okay to mediocre, not hot and may have well been 'sitting around' awhile as it was featured in a special. Years ago, this same dish I ordered here was superb but this version seemed to be a substandard at best replica of that bygone era. And of course as might be expected, more expensive. The waiter, apparently under pressure to hasten our exit, took an unfinished portion of my dinner before I even had a chance to ask to take it home. So much for a nice evening out to eat. The tip left was generous despite the unsatisfactory elements to contend with but that is it... No more patronage nor recommendations {which have been numerous} on my behalf for The Rio Diner and now on to somewhere finer. 'Three Strikes' and I am outta...
Read moreWaitress took 40 min to take our order... Had to call her over. Felt as if we were shunned for doing so. When waitress approached she then apologized stating that someone had a problem with their order but we watched her standing there with her hands behind her back doing nothing and talking with her fellow employer. The employees seemed undertrained. As she took our orders it seemed like she was not interested in what we trying to explain that wanted on chicken cheesesteak. Wanting onions and peppers was so very hard for her to understand. She brings back our order and noooooo peppers and onions on our chicken cheesesteak. We all wanted the same thing. How hard was that. Just satisfied with what she brought out we just did not want to wait any longer. We took a bite...Yucccckkkkkk! Chicken in a can smothered by watery cheese. Then the women at the register took 15 min checking us out. Will...
Read moreWent here for the 1st time on Saturday August 5th 2023 with my family as part of our Traditional yearly Wildwood/Cape May, NJ trip. Decided to give this place a try, as it was getting late, and it was a saturday. Arrived here at 6:30pm, when there was a bit of a line, but no wait, and was sat down quickly. host was very nice. For drinks, we all started with waters. For appetizer, we tried their spring rolls, which was very good. I ordered a veggie wrap with fried eggplant and peppers. My mom ordered a pastrami with wheat gyro. I believe my dad also got a gyro. Food was okay. My food was pretty greacy, and i did not like the hot peppers on my wrap, and the eggplant tasted a bit too fried. mom and dad said the same about their food. Although, am sure that their pancakes are better. left our server a cash tip, and paid with credit card up front. May try this place...
