If you want to save money on groceries, this is the way to do it. It is a different culture of grocery shopping, and can take some getting used to, but it is a worthwhile endeavor. There are not many big name brands, but give the Aldi and off-brands a try and you may be quite impressed. Aldi also has a surprising collection of "clean" foods (but still a ton of frozen, packaged and highly processed foods as well). The produce section is surprising for a small grocery store. The important thing to remember is a quarter! You will need it to unlock your cart...but the great upside is that there are VERY few loose carts in the parking lot (apparently, all those jerks that leave their carts in the lot REALLY want to get their quarter back, as it is all the incentive they need to do the right thing and return the cart to the store at the end of their shopping trip. I didn't see any employees stocking/organizing shelves or cleaning.
My guess is the store is suffering from the same staffing shortages that many businesses are experiencing as Congress pays more people to stay home and collect unemployment benefits. The two cashiers working there did a great job in quickly getting folks...

You won't see the big selection of multiple brands of the same item that you might see in a larger grocery store, but if you're like me you'll find that the brands they do carry are of very good quality. Produce prices are fantastic (bananas 44 cents/lb compared to 69 cents/lb at area grocers, Honeycrisp apples - large ones! - $1.99/lb, hearts of Romaine about half what other stores charge, etc.). If you forget to take your own re-usable bags they have heavy duty large Aldi plastic bags for 10 cents each. When you're in Rio Grande, it's worth stopping by Aldi just to browse and get a feel for prices and selection, so you can decide...
