I usually don't write a review unless my experience is anything less than pleasing. But I feel the need to express the gratitude I have for the evening I experienced at this restaurant. My husband and I were traveling through Middlebury, and our vehicle smelled very funny and started to have some smoke come out from the hood. It needed a mechanic. So we delayed our plans, got a nice hotel, and decided to have a nice night to ourselves. After a couple hours of dropping the car off, checking in, and planning, we stumbled across Two Brothers Tavern, a locally rooted tavern serving a plethora of dishes from comfort to upscale. We were greeted promptly (surprised as it was packed) with an incredibly friendly staff, and we got the last table available in the stunning large window facing the beautiful lights of Middlebury. To start off the night I had a lovely malbec that was by the glass, and my husband actually had to take a couple minutes to choose from the extensive beer list! It included craft beers from all over and most importantly an amazing local selection! He ended up with a Sampler of 5 different ones! Delightful! For entrées my husband got the Steak & Fries. Cooked to perfection, a wonderful homemade steak sauce on the side, crispy hand-cut potato wedges, and a little dressed greens to cleanse your palette. I went for something more comfort wise, and got the Chicken & Dumplings. Wow. Chunks of moist flavorful chicken, hand made soft dumplings with a hint of sage, pieces of firm apple and crispy bacon, all together in a creamy sauce. Just divine. I urge whoever is traveling through Middlebury and has the little bit of time to spare, stop in and you will not be disappointed. Compliments to the owner, chef, and...
Read moreMy wife and I were visiting family up in the northern part of Vermont. On our way through we passed the nice snow filled town of Middlebury. We weren't sure where the popular place to go in town was, but we sure did find it! Two Brothers just has that warm welcoming feeling as soon as you walk in the door. I don't expect every worker to be happy and smiling, but that didn't matter here! They were all happy, multiple people greeted us, and we were sat and watered in a matter of no time (even though it was a busy Friday night!)
The menu is filled with locally sourced ingredients ranging from all over Vermont. We were told we had to try the cheddar ale soup, and some of the specials on that night. The soup was creamy and delicious. My wife had a delicious salad topped with fresh ingredients, and a maple glazed pan seared salmon (just devine). I went for a more meatier approach, and got their steak frites. A nice rendition on a local favorite. Their steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and was juicy and flavorful. Atop their hand cut fries, it was delicious.
Aside from all that, they have 16 cold beers on tap. Most of which are right out of Vermont (and a plethora even right in Middlebury). We went for a couple glasses of wine which fit the meal just right. The service, the food, the experience, all around was a perfect end to our long day of traveling. I can say with confidence the next time we are traveling through Middlebury we will not have to look for places to grab some food. We have found our...
Read moreOur son attends Middlebury College and we were visiting to watch his first football game of the season. There are so many restaurants in this little local town, but one really stood out to us during our visit. We came to Two Brothers and were welcomed into a warming environment there at that restaurant.
We ended up sitting on the Tavern side, as there are two sides, a quaint quiet lovely dining room and a great warm inviting tavern side connected to the bar. Our server was a young yet incredibly professional young lady who attended to our every need (and we are pretty picky) and made it very enjoyable.
The local food was amazing, the craft beer was a selection like no other, and there were smiles from ear to ear at our table. One of the most memorable things about this place is when you are visiting or a local customer there is a special tradition this bar has started here.
Whether you have been going there for 15 years since they opened, or just passing through like myself, take a look at the ceiling and look in awe. There you will find $1,000's of one dollar bills signed by patrons who just couldn't leave without leaving a piece of them behind. It is said to be an old fisherman's tale of good luck. It is a main staple here that you must take part in if you travel through.
In the end, Two Brothers is a welcoming, warm, and wonderful tavern that invites new ideas, local and far away patrons, and a feeling of comfort in this quaint town of...
