I've only lived in Dunellen for a little over 2 years. I am from the Monmouth county shore which is filled with great pizza. Out of all those spots and also the spots in this area, Romano's is the best pizza I've ever had. What makes good pizza? To me, it's the SAUCE. My great grandmother is from Sicily and I was raised on good italian food and homemade sauce. The Margarita pizza is my favorite. Fresh basil and mozzarella with the best sauce in NJ. Dave Portnoy needs to come here.
Trust me when I tell you, this place is as old school as it gets with their food. And that's a good thing. Go in and talk to them as well. Tell them what you want and how you like certain dishes or pizza and they'll put love and care into it just like their other foods.
I'm sitting here eating a margarita pizza and even in a terrible year that 2020 was, whenever I ordered Romano's... it made me feel at home and happy.
Thanks, guys!! Always on point...

For as long as I can remember, this small little pizza joint was an amazing showcase of authentic NJ coastline pizza. Melty cheese, a distinct crunch, generous pizza pie diameters, and a classic “pizza on the go” style of preparation reminiscent of what you’d see on boardwalk.
Nowadays, however, the pies made are just caricatures of what used to be. Dough-y, chewy, miniature, and sloppily prepared (especially when picking special toppings, they slide right off the pies!)
Some items are still occasionally a hit and match their older quality, like their buffalo wings, but it is nevertheless extremely obvious some major internal changes have occurred.
A truly disappointing fate for what was such a...
