The short version is this: I'm still looking for that perfect local Italian place, but this place is an excellent substitute until I find it.
There are so many Italian places in this area, and so many of them are of the philosophy "pizza, but also food" that it's depressing. Uninspired dishes with lackluster sauces and seasoning abound, but not at Mamma Mia. Dishes here are flavorful and bold, even their side salad comes with a pleasingly snappy house made vinaigrette. While I was initially disappointed that the seafood sampler appetizer placed the crispy calamari right in the clam and muscles sauce making them soggy, the sauce ended up being so good I even dumped the dry calamari in to soak. I wish their chicken piccata had capers and a more pronounced lemon flavor, and the cream sauce on the ravioli funghi was on the thinner side of my preference, but the cream sauce still managed a good balanced flavor that made the dish an overall positive experience and something that I would order again. The seafood and chicken were all cooked nicely and even though the pasta could have been a little more al dente, at least it wasn't overcooked and mushy, something I've been noticing more and more with lesser Italian places. Like I mentioned before, I'm still looking for that hidden gem perfect Italian joint, but if you're just looking for friendly people and good food close to home, this is a great place to visit. You won't be...
Read moreThe food and service are great. Mamma Mia Trattoria didn’t disappoint. After a long day at Sesame Place with my family, we were quite hungry and looked on Google maps to see what places were near by to eat at. We choose this restaurant randomly out of the many restaurants in the area. So happy we did. Found parking all along the side of the restaurant. Pesto pasta, seafood soup (soup of the day), calamari, Margherita pizza, tiramisu, cannoli, cappuccino were all superb. The menu is very extensive. So many pasta and pizza dishes plus more to choose from. Service was on point. Very friendly staff. Greeted my family with a smile as soon as we came in and brought us directly to our table which was clean and ready for us. We were able to get a high chair for my 3 year old daughter. Waitress made us feel welcomed and comfortable as she took our order, filled our cups with water whenever our cups were running low and would come around to check if there was anything we needed. She was very attentive. The atmosphere was very nice, spacious and comfortable, quite relaxing. Good for families; kids. My 3 year old daughter was given crayons 🖍️ and a coloring sheet to color on. Though there were many people there, it did not feel overly crowded which is good. The owner (I think he was the owner) asked if we had a nice stay as we were leaving. Our stay was very pleasant. Would definitely come...
Read more10/20/18 - We went to the Oxford Valley Mall to get autographs with the cast of The Sandlot. We went with a friend so he wouldn’t stand in line alone. We were in the mall for 4 hours. It was about 9:20pm when we left and we were hungry. We had looked at the menu online for Mamma Mia’s. The menu stated they had deep dish pizza....this is what drew us in. We walked in and the 3 of us were seated immediately. There were a few other tables occupied, as well. We opened the menu and it was nothing like the online menu. No deep dish pizza, no sandwiches, etc. They had personal pizzas on the menu so we went with that. We ordered 2 waters and 1 unsweetened iced tea. The iced tea tasted like dirty water and had a bad taste. We ordered Caesar salads. They came and the dressing was awful. So thick and very sour. It had one tomato slice with no insides....just the shell. I got up and cancelled the rest of our order. The manager came over and tried to get us to stay and eat the pizza. I said the iced tea is bad and the salads were awful. The blonde server gave us dirty looks as we wanted to cancel the order and leave. The manager tried to get us to come back and try again. We didn’t pay for anything, even though we offered. Also, on a side note, we overheard the table in front of us saying their pasta wasn’t cooked enough and the one lady wasn’t sure if her meat was fully...
