Sandy's Beef & Ale — Restaurant in Middletown Township

We fell in love with Sandy's when we moved to the area in 2019. We've been there many times over the years, introducing friends and family to their establishment.

Unfortunately, I have to revise my previous 5-star review. Shortly after 2024 New Year, we had an awful experience. Portions were diminished, the delicious old bay fries went lightly seasoned, and there was just something off with our experience.

We decided to try it again late in the spring with a similar experience. Mostly issues with the difference in portion size. We talked friends who shared similar feelings.

Today, once again, we wanted to have hope that we'd enjoy an experience as we have in years past. Unfortunately, I knew as soon as we walked in, we should have turned around but we stayed. Tables were full of dirty dishes with limited places to seat ourselves while the wait staff seemed overwhelmed and miserable.

We ordered a few drinks, then placed our order. When I was offered another beer, I was informed the keg was kicked and there wasn't anything else comparable on tap, I made due. The the food showed up. An absolute soup sandwich. Soggy and falling apart. As for the extras we ordered, nowhere to be found. We're not the type to send food back unless it is inedible so we picked it apart. The fries were hot and nicely seasoned. When the waitress brought our check and asked if everything was good, I said, "it was alright". She stated "I'm sorry to hear that", end of conversation, walked off with the check.

Best roast beef sandwiches. I'm editing this for tonight's experience we been coming here for years and tonight was disappointed all he wanted for birthday was here. Our server was absolutely horrible it was us and 1 table when we got in. Took forever to get drink order. We were ready to order when she brought them but she left never asked slowly cleaning a table that could of waited 5 minutes. Then we ordered the potine fries they brought them out and were up where they add gravy. We are trying to get her attention because she was talking to guys at bar. Finally able to get her attention. I tell her our fries are done been sitting up there getting cold. She snaps well im not the only one working here..I waitress many years never would I talk to a customer snotty like that. If it was busy I'd understand but were watching her chatting with these guys at bar. We usually have awsome service there. And noticed the sandwiches are different they are tiny compared to what they use to look like and bread was tough kinda tasted old. Maybe a fluke tonight...

A friend recommended Sandy's for dinner. We walked into a dark, dingy bar. Not what we expected but thought the food must be good. The menu, while large, is just sandwiches with potato chips. My husband had the signature roast beef and I had the turkey. Both sandwiches were terrible. The roast beef was fatty and full of gristle while the turkey was completely tasteless. The meat is carved in very large chunks and the sandwiches have no lettuce or tomato. You can have gravy but all it will do is soak the enormous roll with very strange tasting gravy. To add insult to injury they put the pickles on my potato chips making them wet and inedible. The service was no very attentive probably because we were not regulars. We waited forever to place our order and my husband was not offered another beer. When we finally got our bill the waitress again disappeared and the manager, seeing our frustration, took our credit card. Just an absolutely horrible meal. So sorry we stopped here.
