Toscanella Village Cafe — Restaurant in Middletown Township

I had to unexpectedly babysit at my daughter's house around the corner from this restaurant. My order was very simple...a grilled chicken bacon Swiss sub with lettuce and tomatoes, exactly how it's worded on the menu. Except it came with NO bacon, yet onions on it, which I hate. I added a side of coleslaw which tasted fine. I originally wanted to add fries, but had to add mozzarella sticks instead because ordering online was telling me I needed to add more to meet the minimum. I was literally a hop, skip, and jump away and couldn't just get a hot sub with coleslaw and fries delivered because it didn't meet the minimum. Ok, but the worst part was, this sub par meal ended up costing me $34.97!! Delivery fee $6.90!! To go around the corner? The additional nerve to charge me $1.49 service fee, really? Then I tipped on top of it because I figured it wasnt the delivery person's fault. Big mistake. That person put my food on the dirty floor on the porch with the bugs outside even though the delivery instructions clearly stated to hand me my delivery at the door. Mind you, I ordered directly from their own website. Under normal circumstances, I would have never paid that much for a delivery, but I couldn't leave the house and was starving. Ok fine, I agreed to the fees as much as it bothered me...but then to get a sandwich that had onions on it instead of bacon? How does that even happen?...

One of my family members had eaten here & suggested we set up our annual Xmas Eve dinner here. Long narrow dining room running beside the pizza pick-up counter & register just steps from the front door. (think NYC hidden gem ) Staff was personable, attentive and knowledgeable. We ordered apps for the table first, and were content to chat, visit, and share the plates. Some may think it took too long for dinner to arrive, however..for us the timing was perfect. We ALL cook homemade, so, when we dine out, we hope the food is as good or better than we can put up ourselves. HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK ! Our orders were varied: beautiful stuffed salmon dishes, Scallop/shrimp Ala vodka sauce over pasta, chicken franchise ( served over thin pasta) Eggplant rollantine apps & a dinner, Chicken Marsala, calamari, Linguini w white clam, penne Ala vodka w/choice of salad or pasta side.- We have not one complaint! We all have been raving !! ALL dishes were absolutely excellent! Such a nice hidden find ! BYOB We will be back again and again and again !...

I just ate here for the first time, and I'm so mad I didn't know about it sooner. The inside is nothing fancy, but the food and service were absolutely amazing. They are so friendly, and the service was perfect - no long wait, but not rushed either. I had chicken francese, and it honestly could not have been better. The salad was fresh and the fried calamari was excellent. The bread was a real treat! I went with a group and everyone loved their meals. My husband got a taste of my leftovers and can't wait to go for a family meal. It really is a hidden gem. And a reasonable...
