Awful experience at Coddington tonight. I order the steak tips medium. I got my meal, the steak was way over cooked, the mashed potatoes were hard and cold and the broccoli was extremely cold. I explained to the waitress that my steak was over cooked, I didn’t even bring up the two sides being cold and hard. I asked her if I could have new steak cooked medium. She was gone for 3-4 minutes and came back with the same plate of food, she told me that the owner said the steak tips are marinated so they look like they’re cooked well done but they’re really not. I told her not only did they look extremely over cooked, but they also tasted over cooked. She then told me I could order something else instead of steak if I wanted. The 9 others at the table in my party already had their meals and were eating. I told the lady it was handled terribly and by the time I would look at the menu and re-order a meal my party would all be well finished with their meals. Then she asked if I wanted to speak to the owner, and at that point I told her that I wouldn’t have much to say to him as he already mishandled the whole incident. I will never go here again and if you’re thinking about going here .. please choose any other restaurant. Did they really expect me to eat the same steak tips after the waitress walked around with them to show the cook and owner for 4...
Read moreWe have been a customer of Coddington Brewery since 1998 and my family is always impressed with each visit. It’s located very close to the Newport Navy Base, so sometime I also meet my military friends here for a bite and they always return for more!
First, the food. Lots of options here: burgers, sandwiches, seafood, steaks, pizza, salads. They've got something for everyone. And something for every mood. Everything my wife and I have ever had has been good.
And as a bonus, as the name suggests, it's a brewery. They make several beers. I have much respect for anyone who can brew decent beer. It's a difficult craft.
I'm also impressed with the overall experience. Very clean place. Good dining room. Good bar area. Good staff. Family & Military friendly. Prices are reasonable.
And one of my favorite things: the wait times are some of the easiest in the area. Go anywhere in downtown Newport, and a wait time of 1 hours or more is almost standard during peak dinner hours (if you can get in at all). At Coddington, I've gotten seated right away or have had short waits. It's because it's a few miles away from the busy part of downtown Newport. You'll definitely need to drive there. It's the only place in its little neighborhood. This is a good thing - because it's kind of like...
Read moreI’ve been here twice and both times the service and food were mediocre. The first time I figured it was just an off night. I decided to give them a second chance and was once again disappointed. The waitress couldn’t remember which once was diet and which was a regular coke. I told her they were both flat. She replied “ oh yeah, that’s been a complaint all night” why would you even serve it or at the least just mention it.( she still charged me for it) Our pretzel “cheese” dip, or whatever that concoction was, was cold and chunky. My friends black bean burger was cold and DRY. It took forever to ask for condiments because she never came back to ask how the food was. My blackened chicken Alfredo was… interesting? The chicken was WAY too spicy, and the Alfredo was sweet. Not really what I was expecting. We never saw our server, by the time she got out to ask if we wanted a dessert menu, a co-worker had already did that for her. We didn’t feel like waiting around for some more mediocre food so we ended up declining dessert. Disappointing and way too expensive for...
