Apparently Dempseys has been sold again. I and my partner drove up to Dempseys from downtown Frederick to have breakfast. We walked in and things and staff had changed. So we sat down and a young man waited on us. He got our coffee and we ordered. I ordered sausage gravy and biscuits. My partner ordered Eggs Benedict and hash browns to be well done. A minute later the waiter came back and asked me what type of toast I wanted for with my sausage gravy I said to him that I want biscuits as it is stated on the menu. His response was"oh it does". The less than a minute later he comes back and asked my partner how he would like his eggs on his Eggs Benedict and my partner answered poached as they are normally made. I just knew there was going to be a problem. So they bought the food out and my sausage gravy with eggs was not what it was suppose to be. I got chopped beef gravy with large dried and burnt biscuits and my eggs where pretty much fried instead of over easy and they had cheese on them which I did not ask for. The gravy was terrible. My partners Eggs Benedict was terrible. The eggs were not poached and the holindiase sauce must have been out of a premixed package it was not home made. And had to much butter on it. The hashbrowns were burnt to a crisp hard as a rock. I took a couple bites and that was it for me. My partner did the same. The waiter cam back and asked how where things and I told him terrible and his first response was "good" and then I said I don't think you understood meand I told him again it was not good his response was "I'm sorry and walked away. He did not bother to comp the meal or even have the owner/ manager come over. I told him. To bring the check he did notso I went to the register and stood there until he came up and then he rung up the check. I did not leave a tip for the awful and terrible food and waiter. Now I frequentedthe dinner when the first owners had it and the food and service was fantastic. The second owners the food was OK and service was good. It's obvious that the third owners have no idea what they are doing and I don't see them staying in business much longer if they don't change how food is made. The manager/owner came around and greeted some people I assume he knew them but did not.bother to come over and see how things where or hey let me comp that breakfast ... nothing! So we paid the outrage price of $45.00 and we will never go back there again. I will make sure I tell people not to waste their money on this gastro...
Read moreWe visited on July 28th for breakfast.
All of the employees were high-schoolers, save for maybe one adult? They were mild-mannered on the surface but entirely incapable of doing good work. There was a long wait for our food despite it mainly being just eggs, toast, home fries; all of which were room-temp or cold by the time they reached our table. The eggs and home fries were under-cooked (raw & unseasoned potatoes, gooey egg whites), making toast the only correctly cooked item we got. We didn't even receive our silverware until after the food, making it about 50+ minutes before we had the utensils to eat; we had to flag down one high-schooler to ask for silverware who never got back to us, so we had to flag down ANOTHER high-schooler who finally got some for us. We only got one coffee refill and no water refills, and weren't asked if we wanted them either.
I did not tip. We aren't visiting again. I can't understand how this place has a 4.6 star rating. I understand that sometimes there are bad days, short-handed, whatever... but somehow literally everything went wrong with our visit, and it was the last day we were visiting Maryland for the weekend so we got to leave the state with a bad taste in our mouths, literally and figuratively. It's like the staff were deliberately trying to sabotage our visit.
Breakfast is the sort of meal that is hard to mess up, but Dempsey's Grille managed to mess it up perfectly. I could have just gone to a Denny's or made breakfast myself; either would've ran circles around this waste of a...
Read moreAte (some) breakfast here on Saturday the 7th. Waited an entire hour for eggs, toast, sausage, and potatoes. When the food finally came, neither one of us received the potatoes. My friends plate was comically empty, with his food all shoved to one side as it obviously should have come with potatoes. We asked for them and someone went to get them. In the 15 minutes or so as we ate and finished up, we never got them nor heard about them.
As we paid, and another someone asked how the food was, I told him we didn't receive everything we ordered. He didn't even acknowledge what I said, much less apologize. He just indicated where to swipe my card and to answer the question about the tip on the machine. The food was B+, but just avoid this place. There were 9 people working in this small restaurant that morning (poorly managed high schoolers with no work uniform) and they were all busy doing absolutely nothing. Left a little sour note at the end of a great weekend...
