Japanica II — Restaurant in Middletown

This place was recommended from some friends who went a few years ago. After seeing the rating was above 4 stars I figured it’s worth trying out. My wife and I ordered some appetizers Sunday afternoon (fried vegetables, miso soup, and I ordered a kani/seafood salad). I noticed the kani salad was not served ice cold like I am used to. It was a bit cooler than room temperature, but I thought nothing of it as this was my first time at this restaurant and maybe they make it differently.

My wife asked to try the kani salad and commented that it tasted “off”. I thought nothing of it other than their Kani salad wasn’t great. At 3am this morning both my wife and I got sick and my wife is currently in the hospital which is most likely food poisoning as she can’t keep anything down and the only thing we had done differently was go out here. Love Japanica, easily one of the most affordable, yet most delicious place to get Sushi in the surrounding area. the atmosphere is quaint but you can still get a little noisy with friends or family without worrying about other patrons getting upset, they also has a side/private room for small groups if you request it - 90% of the seating is designed as four seater booths and the lighting is warm yet dim - just enough to see everything you need to see yet not so dark that it'll hurt to adjust your eyes when you exit the building.

all in all just a great place to grab lunch, or dinner and a drink if heading over with a friend I recommend the Scorpion...

Besides it being dead at 730pm on a Saturday night, it was just okay. The service was slow & not very attentive, especially being the only table. Ordered a scorpion bowl for 2- tasted like it was made with juice only & the "151" wouldn't light on fire since it was probably fake, embarrassing. Ordered about $50 of food - dinner: sushi trio w/hand roll, miso soup & salad. My bf ordered the udon noodles chicken & shrimp dinner w/eel maki roll. We shared a scorpion bowl, but only drank half since it was mostly juice. Overall, we did not enjoy anything that much to want to return. It will be our last choice for sushi in Middletown...
