I live in Canada, but visit Midland often because I have family there. I am a pastry chef, so I love this place for its from-scratch pastries! Everything I have tried is delicious. My favourite is the peanut butter caramel cookie 😋

My only problem with this place is the customer service. I’ve been in I believe 3 times since they’ve opened and I’ve never felt welcome or appreciated for spending my hard-earned money at this business. I’ve worked strictly at small businesses throughout my life and I know how important customer service is to a place. I don’t believe I’ve ever been helped by one of the owners, so I would advise them to maybe have a talk with their employees about being a bit friendlier. Maybe they’re tired and stressed out from a busy day, but after 3 visits with similarly bad experiences, they should try to figure out a solution for their attitudes.

I also want to say that because I’ve worked in restaurants and bakeries my whole life, I know problem customers, and I am not one. I try to be as quick and easy as possible when I go anywhere because I...

Coffee's Good, But the Pastries Fell Flat

Just swung by Chef Sergey's this month, curious to see what it's like now, though I missed its opening buzz. Honestly? It was a bit of a disappointment, despite a few bright spots.

The real letdown for me was the pastries. Most of what I tried was either dry or seriously lacking in flavor. It's tough to recommend them. The only one that stood out, and I'd maybe consider getting again, was the Ukrainian cake.

The bread was just okay, nothing to write home about. However, the coffee was the clear winner here. It's pretty good and surprisingly strong for Midland, which was a welcome surprise.

Overall, while the coffee might tempt me back, the general experience was a miss. As of this month, it feels like they need to do some serious work, especially on...

Edit I'm very disappointed to have to change my review. But on 2 separate occasions of me coming into order. I waited my turn and then the employees just helped the customers that came in behind me in. Not sure how this happened, and then it happened again the very next time. All I know is once you run out of something it is gone for the day. I would have been very very disappointed if the customer the employees let skip me, order the last of what I was planning to order. Also, when I come to order here, I order for 6 people not just myself

The food is amazing. I had the ham croissant and a piece of tiramisu. Good food just need to figure out a better system for forming a line and honoring first...

First thing I noticed was how delicious everything looks and all of the staff had smiles on their faces! Staff was super friendly, inviting, and very helpful with questions. My partner and I got a Square Pistachio Crossoint and a Chocolate Crossoint to try first, and they were both AMAZING! It was all there, texture, softness with a bit of crunch, and the perfect flavor-to-bread ratio-- not too sweet and not too bread-y! (And also big portion sizes, so it makes up for the price!) We even warmed the Chocolate Crossoint when we got home and it was heavenly- Great job! We will be back to try more soon!
