The Massey's pizza in Gahanna has been around for a number of years. They were one of the first buildings put in when the land they sit on was redeveloped. In that entire time the pizza has been consistently great.
Massey's is unique in that they user corn meal under the pizza when they cook it. It gives a nice crisp crust to their thin, edge-to-edge pizza. My favorite topping has always been their pepperoni. They use a smaller diameter pepperoni and cover the pizza in it. When it cooks, some of the pepperoni curls up likea little bowl and the edges get just slightly browned. Just that little phenomenon makes it so delicious!
They introduced a thick crust pizza a few years ago which is really good but their thing is the thin and they do it really good. Subs are toasted as well with a mean Italian sub on the menu.
This location also has a lunch buffet. One price for pizza, pasta, salad, subs, and garlic bread with a drink. It's a good deal and popular so the pizza on the buffet is kept fresh.
Since this one has been around so long, the building shows its age. It isn't dirty and you won't question your choice to go there but the decor is dated, lighting could use fixed up, and details like chipped veneer on trash bins give up the fact the place has been there over 20 years. Some might be put off by that, others consider it charm. Either way, you can't go wrong...
Read moreBeen coming to this location forever. But today was the worst experience ever and I will never spend another penny at any Massey's. All I did was question the manager Nick about why they were trying to charge $2 for water and why if there was no where to sit in the restaurant they would still take our dine in order? It was 4:45 and they had an entire section blocked off for a party at 6. Said we wouldn't be done in a timely manner and they wouldn't have time to clean. Nick said it is the customers responsibility to see that there is seating available and that we should know that. Nick proceeded to raise his voice and curse at me. He then refused to serve us and refunded my mother in-laws money without telling anyone. When she asked for a receipt to know she wasn't being charged he had more attitude about that. We have come here at least twice a month as a family for the past 5 years. I will NEVER visit Massey's again anywhere. This general manager has no business interacting with customers. We have put up with long waits before but this is by far the worst experience. I would not recommend ever coming to Gahanna. If you must have Massey's I really enjoy Grove City and Powell. As for me and my family they have lost a long term customer. But as Nick put it..."We won't...
Read moreLast Thursday, I called Massey's Pizza in Grove City and asked them about reserving a "party room" for 30 to 40 people. They told me they do not take reservations but they did have a heated patio that could accommodate our group and we just needed to send someone over early and they could hold it for us. That is what we planned to do since someone HAD to be at the restaurant to hold it. Turns out.....apparently that is not true.
I called them today just to give them a courteous heads up and a more firm count only to learn someone had RESERVED the patio for a party of 30!?!?!?! When I inquired how that is possible when I was told something completely different they did not have an answer other than a woman called "earlier this week". When I explained I had called on 2/1 (confirming with my cell phone history) they had nothing to offer - not even an opportunity to make it right by reserving a different area within the restaurant. So, we will take our business elsewhere and I hope you too will remember this as you choose your future dining establishments! Very disappointing for me but certainly will be more disappointing for the 15 kids who thought they were having their end of season pizza...
