We came in for our 2nd and final experience this evening, and this time I decided to bring my mother and another family friend, after having a pretty good experience our first time.
We waited 45 minutes for a table, ordered up a guacamole, soda, and margarita.. After a bit of a wait we placed our dinner order including birria tacos, Mexico city tacos, Flautas, and my 70 year old mother decided to try the vampiros tacos, based on the fact that she loves steak and shrimp. Everything was mostly OK up to this point.
When dinner first dropped on the table our waitress did a quick check. "Is everything ok" , yup, ok! We all dug in, my mom quickly developed an "oh crap" look on her face. I looked over at her and I asked if she was alright, are the tacos good? She said they were really spicy and her lips were on fire. This sent my mom into a little bit of a panic, because she will get very sick if she eats anything too spicy, and I could tell by the look on her face that this was too spicy. Mind you, the menu said nothing about the dish being spicy, otherwise she wouldn't have ordered it. I told her, "mom, I don't want to see you get sick later, please don't try to power through it". And she didn't. We waited a few minutes for the waitress to come by and we informed her that the dish was too spicy, and my mom couldn't eat it. She proceeded to essentially call my mom a liar, by listing off the ingredients, insisting that there isn't anything spicy in there. She went to grab the manager on duty. We informed her, the dish was too spicy, it will make my mother sick, can you please exchange it for a different dish. She said, we can, but we'll have to charge you for both dinners. Then she also called my mother a liar by listing off the ingredients and telling her there's nothing spicy inside. I told her normally a restaurant would bring their customer a different dish if they can't eat what was prepared, at which point the manager offered a 10% to 20% discount on a second dish, which just felt like another insult at that point.
So after my 70 year old mother was called a liar by the server and manager , I have to say we will never go back to this restaurant. There are too many other great restaurants in town, I'm not dealing with an establishment that insults their customers and isn't willing to make a crappy situation right. All the dishes were spicy, even the table salsa is spicy. None of that is disclosed. The thing is, when your customer is telling you they can't eat the dish, because it'll make them sick, you bring them a different dish ASAP, you don't call them a liar.
The guacamole is good..
UPDATE: Mom insisted I take the remainder of the meal home with me, since she still had to pay full price for it, despite taking 2 bites of one taco. I heated it up the next day to discover that the tortillas used are soaked in the broth from the birria. Beef birria is made from gaujillo, pasilla, and Chipotle peppers, as well as many other spices and herbs. So, depending on the restaurants exact recipe, it can be spicy. It is common practice to soak the tortillas for birria tacos in the broth and grill them on a flat top, but the menu makes no mention of this for the Vampiros tacos. The effect was that the fillings of the Vampiros tacos was not spicy, but the tortillas themselves were dripping with birria juices and indeed pretty spicy. The broth is a bit greasy, from the beef slow cooking in it for hours, and the peppers and spices implant their spice into the broth. It's the kind of grease that coats your lips a bit as you eat, making them feel quite tingly. I know this for a fact because I make Beef Birria tacos at home. The bottom line is that yes, the tacos were indeed spicy, too much for my mother, but it's the policy of the restaurant to call their customers liars, and NOT do whatever they can to ensure their guests have a...

Our first visit was phenomenal. I tried them again just to make sure, and I'm sold. This is a fantastic new spot, and it's going to be the next big spot in the area for as long as they keep this up. Amazing food, service and atmosphere. The only con is that everyone knows its great so there's always going to be a wait 😆
Our first visit we got: Two huge house margs - super fresh, clean and the exact thing you're looking for in any authentic Mexican joint
Our server (who was so incredibly sweet and attentive) suggested the elote dip and OMG. It's just packed full of flavor - creamy, spicy, citrusy. It was perfect.
Lobster quessadilla - OMG again. This thing was absolutely packed with Lobster. And it was only $19! I think it fed me for at least two meals afterward, too. Their Chipotle aioli is smokey, spicy, punchy and should be served with all meals
We spent about $75 prior to tipping
Second visit:
Elote dip, obviously
Ay Papi - this is a strawberry, jalapeno type marg and it absolutely delivered on flavor and spice
Small house marg
Shrimp and scallop entree - both the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. Excellent seasoning on the rice and cheese sauce. And for only $19, I was pleased with the portion size
Chorizo burrito - HUGE, flavorful, packed full of chorizo
Kids quessadilla - homemade tortillas and ooey-gooey yummy cheese
Again spent about...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this gem while in search of a Mexican restaurant on our way through the area. We parked behind the building (seemed easier than looking for street parking) and walked to the storefront. Super cute little town!
We walked in not knowing what to expect, were greeted and seated quickly. Our server, Ken, was absolutely awesome! He was able to help me find something I liked that could be prepared dairy free and also helped my hubby figure out a good meal for himself. The menu choices are plentiful and they certainly seemed more than happy to accommodate my dairy allergy.
The food was so fresh and the presentation was beautiful! Starting with chips and salsa, we were immediately impressed. Salsa was fresh and had just the right slight heat. Cabo Shrimp Taco meal was amazing even without dairy! The serving size was pretty generous. Hubby had gr beef tacos and a quesadilla plus a fabulous Tres Leches Cake. I feel like the food showed the kitchen cares what they send out and Ken crafted a fantastic Jacobo’s Margarita.
We spent more on the meal than most would, prices are very fair-we ordered an assortment on purpose. I highly recommend anyone in the area (whether you live there or are passing by) to give this place a try. Great food, great staff, clean facility, I hope we can...
