Bar Louis — Restaurant in Milford

After kayaking, I decided to go to bar Louie to see Bob who is normally working behind the bar. However, I heard Bob was under the weather and will be out for a while, and I want to wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

I met Jenn who is the new manager and filling in for Bob and Skyler who is the server that is aspiring to be a bartender while studying environmental science.

I decided to order the sushi pizza. It’s a favorite of mine and the pork and beans because why not give it a try .

The sushi pizza came out with an extra crispy base which I’ve never had before at this particular establishment and I have to say I really liked it. It was the perfect platform for the sushi and the sauce. Taking a bite I would hear the crunch and feel the texture on my tongue and it complimented the sushi. I hope they make it this way all the time.

The pork and beans with some thing that I’ve never experienced wall in France and since this is a French based menu, I thought why not. It’s a sick cut of pork belly, which has a lot of fat in it but the base layer of meat was cooked to perfection and there was a middle layer that was very tasty as well that you must cut out once you cut that out and you have the crispy skin from the top and you mix it with the beans in the onions and that sweet tangy sauce that they have it was very impressive. Being an old, crusty military person I’ve eaten plenty of pork and beans in my life, and this was by far the most flavorful.

As I stated earlier in this review, I had kayaked earlier in the day and just so you know, I did 10 miles. So I rewarded myself with dessert. Gary the general manager of the entire establishment was behind the bar and made me a smoked apple the old fashion with some special ingredients that I can’t remember. As part of my dessert, I had an apple tart that’s not the name, but that’s all I can recall and impaired really well with Gary’s Apple old fashion.

All I can say is, I’ll be there next Thursday because I found out tonight Thursday is lobster night. I would highly encourage people to go and give it a try and the food was very tasty.

The evening was entertaining as I got to speak to Jenn, Skyler and Gary and I even met some people from Philly that were visiting and even though they’re Eagles fans, they were still fun...

I'm only giving this place 2 stars because the food is Sooooo good. However, the service is Sooooo bad. We've been to bar Louis 4 times and same story every time. You can't get a drink in this place to save your life, and the wait staff are ghosts. On Thanksgiving, we dined upstairs at the Delmonico room and it's a totally different experience. Top notch, service, so I decided to make a reservation up there again for Christmas Eve. They were having a prefix menu with a wine tasting and that was exactly what we were looking for. IN THE DELMONICO. So I call and make a reservation for 3 adults, and we were bringing our infant (as we did on Thanksgiving) We arrive, speak to a very French accented guy (the very same guy I made the reservation with over the phone) and he couldn't find it. A few minutes later he realizes he made it for Bar Louis. NOT WHAT WE DISCUSSED, but he was not going to allow us to sit upstairs. Even tho I made a reservation for the pre fix. So, we were summoned to the basement of horrific service. We get seated right away, and that is where the wait begins..... 10 minutes and the waiter comes to take our drink order. Fine. It was busy. 25 minutes later, no joke he returned with the bottle of wine that we ordered. And forgot a ginger ale that came 10 minutes later, but we had the wine and water so, fine. He took our order, and we didn't see him again until well after our meal (appetizers, then our dinner) no sign of our waiter. We asked other wait staff, plus food runners, and bussers for the entire dinner portion of the meal, for another ginger ale. We're still waiting for it. Horrible overwhelmed bartender. He couldn't handle it. Our waiter also was no where. Like we thought he left or quit. Finally after asking another wait staff to please please for God sakes send us the person waiting on our table to us, he says would you like dessert? Omg. No. A flipping ginger ale would have kept us there for dessert, another 2 cocktails at least and a better dining experience. I can't go back to this place again because of the service. It's a shame.
