Basic Batch Donuts — Restaurant in Milford

Ok so my family loves donut shops and we were so excited to hear about this one opening so close by! To date our favorite donut shop has been Allies Donuts in North Kingstown RI. They have the classic favorites such as maple frosted, cream filled and jelly. I set my alarm this Saturday morning to arrive at Basic promptly at 7am, was greeted by lovely staff and impressed by a gorgeous counter full of donuts! I proceeded to buy a dozen of donuts that totaled about $41 and headed home to surprise the family. Unfortunately we were overall disappointed. The maple bacon (one of my favorites) was quite thick and lacked in flavor. My son’s favorite is the old reliable chocolate dipped, and he ate less then half and threw the rest away. My daughter enjoyed the Boston cream, which I understood to be a “special” and not offered regularly and the rest honestly looked better then they tasted in comparison to ALLIES. Maybe it was because we had set our bar so high and had we not had Allies, would’ve loved Basic Batch, but that unfortunately was not the case. Not to mention the drastic price difference per dozen. I believe we are upto $16 per dozen at Allies although we haven’t been since summer so not sure if it has changed. I loved the owners story of their journey and wish them much success but highly suggest they take a ride to Allies to see what we mean. Fantastic Donuts! The fruity pebble, Raspberry White Chocolate Cruller and Boston Cream were the absolute best!!! Hands down the creamiest Boston cream donut we’ve ever had, most skimp on the filling this one was oozing with light fluffy cream. We drove 40mins to try these donuts and they did not disappoint. We also tried a Strawberry Iced Coffee and Butter Pecan Iced Coffee, both were very delicious but the Butter Pecan flavor really shined through. Customer Service was top notch as well! After seeing they are closed on Mondays we decided to go Sunday Morning. There was a long line but the girls moved quickly and were very friendly. We were in and out in about 15mins. I see some reviews complaining about the price, these are fresh speciality donuts with unique flavors. We’ve paid way more in NYC for donuts that didn’t even come close to these. We’re also from upstate NY where Apple Orchard donuts are cheaper but simple apple cider donuts are not in the same category as these.
