I wandered into this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon because of it's interesting front entrance and signage. I didn't know what to expect but I was treated not like a customer but like family. "I guess I'll stay" I thought to myself. An attractive waitress from India (this is Not an Indian restaurant) asked how many and escorted me to a secluded patio in the rear of the restaurant. Brick walls with ivy climbing up in a beautiful, clean well manicured setting. The waitress with big bedroom eyes and a beautiful complexion was so attentive I wanted to propose to her. Anyway, I snapped out of it and was handed a menu. Not less than 5 minutes I was handed a plate of freshly baked warm french bread which could've been a meal onto itself. So delicious I think I had 3 plates of it. The menu consist of mainly tapas which allows me to eat more than most! Lol. I chose the snails and the lamb tacos. I love escargot. I usually expect a plate of escargot with only 6 snails in their shell. This was different. This dish was an abundance of 24 snails completely shelled swimming in a delicious garlic, butter etc broth that really "blew my skirt up" fantastic. Delectable, not too pricey. I was very content with what was placed in front of me. Second course was lamb tacos cooked to perfection.Tender, juicy with a very unique flavor. Loved'em! Bistro Basque I couldn't think of a better place to take someone for an exceptional romantic dinner. One feels like your in another part of the world. Impeccable service. Undivided attention was given to me not just by my precious waitress but other staff members. Don't miss out on this dining experience at Bistro Basque. An enchanting restaurant owned by Frenchman with a Latin/French flair. It doesn't get any better than that!!!! My server made my experience not only relaxing, enjoyable and pleasurable one but a very memorable one. How can I not possibly go back. Bistro Basque is...
Read moreI went here three times on my New England vacation (I was staying at the Marriott not far away). The first time I just stumbled on it, had one glass of wine and two tapas, a delicious arugula salad and a fantastic shrimp in brown garlic sauce. The service is always a tad idiosyncratic, but I like that about it. I don't mean spotty; they are all friendly and helpful, but each worker has a distinct personality. One night I was seated by the owner, a French Basque, another night I was served by the cook, another night the bartender took care of me in between chatting with the locals. The second time I got more daring and ordered the boudin tapas. Now, if you've read Lewis and Clark, you know what that is. I didn't inquire too closely, but the filling was mouth-watering soft, smooth, with just the right amount of spice. The casing was wafer-thin so barely noticeable. Once I sat in the dining room, which was cute and slightly funky but rather warm and stuffy. The tables are quite close together, so be prepared to be a little sociable. The other two times we ate at the high-tops in the bar area, more comfortable but also long enough to seat about 8 people, so you might be sharing your meal there, too. Altogether a pretty unique place for the US and well worth going out of your way for. After dinner, take a walk around the charming mill and river area, where there are several other lively spots, or check out the monuments on the long...
Read moreI've gone to Bistro Basque several times within the last few years and have raved about the food. Recently I met a coworker of mine there for dinner and could not believe how drastically the food quality had changed...for the worse. For drinks we ordered mojitos and those were great. We ordered a couple of appetizers and thought perhaps our taste buds did not like our choices...so we ordered another set of appetizers. After having four different appetizers we could not resist admitting to each other that none of them were good. I was beyond upset mainly because I suggested the place. The owner and bartender were extremely attentive and very nice to us so there was nothing lacking in customer service at all. I'm not sure if there is a new chef or what has changed, but something has definitely changed. We left without even having dinner...
Maybe it was an off night in the kitchen - not sure but won't be going...
