Came here on Valentine's evening with my mom for dinner. We had reservations for seven was seated pretty much immediately the place was packed from wall to wall which we understand cuz it was Valentine's night. Once we were seated we were given our water had to wait a bit to order our drinks and food we had to flag down the waiter several times. We waited we waited 40 minutes to receive our glass of wine and a soda. We had to flag the waiter down again because he took off right after giving the drinks to even order our food so that was another 20 minutes once we ordered the food my mom asked to have everything very plain no seasonings on her steak therefore no gravy. I ordered lamb chops they were out of lamb chops understood no problem so I decided to order the New York strip and that took a while once it came out it was confusion as to who's plate was. The plate that they initially brought out for me I asked for New York strip to replace the lamb chops looked like had a big pile of rice it looked like on the plate I suppose those were my mashed potatoes that I ordered. They looked cold stiff and grainy. My mom's plate would she ordered Plain on her steak had smothered in some kind of gravy or sauce or A1. All of the beef had this weird sauce on it. At this point I was hungry so we tried it gave it a shot the potatoes were freezing they seemed like they were instant the sauteed spinach had pretty much cloves of garlic and I love sauteed vegetables however the garlic pieces were too much I mean you can literally chew them like it was the size of a peanut . The steak was stringy and tough. I was not a happy camper. I usually am very grateful and do the best I can with whatever meal I receive but I was just not happy with that although it was very busy I felt like the waiter kept taking off before I got a chance to mention anything so once they came to us I guess to give us the check I said I'm not happy. He was gracious enough to comp the meal and just have us pay for the drinks I got I understand it was busy the waiter seemed like he was alone and he was nice but was overwhelmed but the food was not up to par and the service could have been a little better. Unfortunately I will not...
Read moreVisited this delightful restaurant last weekend. Everything was wonderful from the moment we arrived. The bar area is beautiful and restaurant side is cozy and the acoustics great. You can actually hear your conversations at the table. The food was excellent, from the sauteed artichokes, steamed mussels, cheese croquettes, and eggplant napoleon we had for appetizers to the grilled Atlantic salmon, skirt steak, grilled rack of lamb, seafood pappardelle for our dinner choices. They also had a good amount of specials for the evening, which looked wonderful. The drinks were outstanding! We had couple of choices from their drink menu as well as wine that was excellent. The desserts were wonderful, an orange flan, profiteroles with ice cream, and a bananas foster with homemade caramel sauce - all fantastic. Top it off with some cappuccino that was delightfully the correct temperature, and an espresso martini that they made with fresh brewed espresso. The best part of the evening was when I left something of value on the table by mistake and didn't notice it until we got home. I immediately called the restaurant and they said they had it there waiting for me. I asked if I could come back then and they said they were closing but would wait until we got there. They could have easily said they did not find anything on the table but they were honorable and said they had it there. Impressive! Not to mention the waiter all evening was courteous, prompt, and very helpful to our questions. This restaurant also has two other locations, one in East Haven, which we have also been to and the food there is fantastic as well. There is another location in Westbrook which we have not been to but if it's anything like these two locations, I wouldn't...
Read moreValentine's Day dinner at this restaurant was unfortunately a series of missteps. We initially had a reservation for 7:30 pm, but received a call asking to shift it to 8:00 pm. When we arrived, the place was overbooked, with a line of people waiting, and we didn’t get seated until 8:30 pm. We understood that these things happen, so we tried to be patient.
Once seated, we ordered drinks right away, but after 30 minutes, the waiter returned asking for our drink order again. We placed our food order at the same time, and after an hour of waiting, our appetizer finally arrived. By this point, half the restaurant had cleared out, but the service remained lackluster—no one checked on us, and we were left sitting there for long stretches of time.
Additionally, we didn’t receive any bread until the end of our meal, despite seeing the staff deliver it to other tables. After a total wait of 1 hour and 40 minutes, our entrees were finally brought out. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations. It was bland, poorly seasoned, and definitely not worth the long wait.
The highlight of the meal was the bread we received after the entree, which says a lot about the overall experience. All in all, a disappointing evening, especially given the special occasion. Would not recommend based...
