Read moreI regret not visiting Katya's Bakery sooner. I've known about it for a few years not but only just recently visited. Everything I had was impressive and delicious. I visited on a Saturday early afternoon and it was not very busy. The bakery was nicely decorated with contemporary tables and chairs which were inviting. The two women taking my order were friendly and helpful as well. They must have had already sold most of their savory items because there weren't many left, but many desserts were luckily still available. I ordered a beef, chicken, cheese pirozhok along with a cherry cream puff, a slice of Spartak cake, a peach, and two macarons. Everything was great. The pirozhok was meaty and not too greasy. As for the desserts, the cherry cream puff was great because the filling wasn't too rich or sweet. The Spartak was chocolaty but not too sweet or rich as well. The peach was amazing due to its price and the finesse it needs in order to make it. I ordered the peach not knowing what to expect but it is a cake ball with caramel or something binding the two halves and a dab of chocolate or something in the middle representing a peach stone. It is whimsical and a delight to eat. Finally, the macarons were delicious. I have not tried a macaron in France yet but I can only imagine the ones at Katya's are what the platonic ideal of a macaron would be with it's crisp exterior the cracks when you bite into it to reveal the cake interior and smooth filling. The raspberry macaron I ate had a great balance of sweetness as well and the cream filling had a perfect amount of sweetness. One of the women working there said everything is made in house which means I'll have to try the pelmeni and borscht soon. I should have visited years ago but since I finally visited, I will be back...
Read moreService was excellent, wish I could remember the name of the sweet girl who helped us (maybe Anne or Annie?)! She was very nice and accommodating.
Between 4 of us we ordered a few items to go! We had just passed by Mariana’s Bakery across the street (which is a Mexican bakery and also highly recommend) for some sweet pastries! So we stopped here for savory ones and coffee! (Don’t judge us, until you try it! We were driving to Canada 😅 so we were on vacation and roadtripping.)
Pirozhki’s both tasted great but they smelled weird, almost off putting. I forgot exactly which ones we ordered but my favorite was one with potatoes in it, they make it with a mashed potatoes consistency (which I love) and it gave it such a great texture and delicious taste as long as I ignored the scent, lol.
Also ordered a Pumpkin Spiced Latte and a Sweet Coffee Frappe. I was so surprised to see PSL on the menu, which I love so naturally I had to order it! When asked for no sugar, they mentioned the pumpkin flavor is a simple syrup that gets mixed into the chai so they couldn’t really adjust the sugar contents. She did kindly add less for me!
My sister’s bf ordered the sweet coffee frappe which is very sweet, be warned! He enjoyed it but couldn’t get passed half of it. Make note, this was coming from someone who is okay to indulge in sugar on occasion but typically stays away from processed sugars.
And because we don’t see it too often, we also ordered a Nutella Meringue Swirl. Yum!
Atmosphere was good, just had a typical modern café style.
In addition to pastries, they also have a variety of Eastern European savory meals. It’s a place to enjoy for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner! We went for an...
