A Taste of Authenticity that Transcends Borders

As a former resident of Los Angeles for 10 years and a frequent traveler to Mexico, I've had my fair share of Mexican cuisine. My wife, Carmen is Mexican, she's an excellent chef, and we consider ourselves foodies, always in search of authentic and flavorful experiences. Today, we stumbled upon Katrina's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, and it was an absolute delight.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly service. The owner was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, setting the stage for a memorable meal.

We decided to try one of their signature dishes - the Molcajete with shrimp, chicken, and steak, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The combination of tender meats, perfectly seasoned nopales, and a rich, savory tomatillo salsa was a symphony of flavors. But what truly set this dish apart was the presentation. Instead of the usual tortillas, it was accompanied by cheese quesadillas and bacon-wrapped, cheese-stuffed jalapeños. This unique twist added an extra layer of sinful deliciousness that elevated the entire dining experience.

Katrina's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is a true gem, offering not only exceptional food but also a warm and inviting atmosphere. If you're looking for a taste of Mexico that will transport you south of the border, look no further. This is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic flavors and genuine hospitality.

Been here once before with some friends. The birria was fantastic so on Cinco De Mayo my girlfriend and I wanted to support a great local spot. Second impression was not great. My girlfriend went in to grab the order and was ignored twice by the person at the front of house. They leaned AROUND my girlfriend to seat two groups behind her before asking if she needed help. Then, and this is only speculation, but it seemed our order had been given to the wrong person as they claimed to still be working on it even though we had received an order completed and ready for pickup text 20 minutes prior. I ordered the Asada Burrito while my girlfriend had a chicken Chimichanga. The burrito is thick layers of tortilla with some relatively flavorless Asada, rice and beans on the side. $19 for this. The Chimichanga was just the chicken in the deep fried tortilla but is topped with a thick tomato sauce almost like a paste.y girlfriend didn't even want it because it was not very appealing. That entree was $17. Both came with some pico, guac, and sour cream which is definitely a plus. We also got some churros which are good. $63 for our entire meal after tip and I'm left here wishing I had gone to rancheritos for a more flavorful, more full, and way cheaper burrito. Most likely will not be returning here. I would rather support local, but the food and price needs to be comparable to each other. I'd pay $20 for a giant, delicious stuffed burrito any day. This one is not worth it in...

Our server Ydalaya was incredibly rude. We sat at our table for 20 minutes & she never greeted us, brought us water or chips & salsa. One of the bussers had to start serving us & when she came to our table to take our order & we told her someone else already took our order she said it didn’t count because he isn’t our server, she is. We had to wait for so long for anything we needed & had to flag her down each time to get anything because she never came to our table & any time we’d ask for water or chips & salsa she acted very annoyed. We’ll never be coming back. As you can see the owner tried justifying our server & with invalid information. We went to Katrina’s well before the rush. There were only four other family’s in the restaraunt so there was no reason to not be seen or for our server to have a bad attitude. We were kind & patient & the attitude we received was undeserving. In addition to poor service, the carne asada in my carne asada burrito was dry, the sour cream & guac were on the side instead of inside so I had to build my burrito, my boyfriend ordered the flauta & enchilada both of which were not good & very small. Two small bad tasting dishes & two margaritas for $50 was a rip off & made for an overall terrible experience &...

One of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve tried yet in SLC! This place really walks the line between authentic Mexican food and food Americans would be comfortable with. Its excellent location along 3300 S in Millcreek certainly helps with its desirability. The restaurant space is bright and clean. The decor is subdued and tasteful. We went on a Friday night and our server was clearly exhausted. She did a great job but was definitely overworked. The service was still extremely quick. We were seated outside immediately. This was by choice, as there were also open tables indoors. The chips and salsa were good. I ordered a sampler of mole. Three in our party ordered the birria tacos. The fourth ordered the flautas. All the meals came with rice and beans. I was initially disappointed the Birria tacos only came with 2 tacos each, but they were big enough it didn’t matter. The rice and beans were flavorful, as were the flautas. The showstopper was the mole. They were all delicious, and came on a beautiful custom-made serving board. Prices were fair. They also serve alcohol and had some drinks that looked good.

Wow!! This place surprised me. From the outside it’s not the cutest but the inside is beautiful! The atmosphere is so fun and the menu is simple and easy to follow. They start off with free chips and salsa. Their salsa is bomb!!! It’s a soupy salsa that has a little kick to it. LOVED! We also ordered queso which was also delicious and had a wonderful sweetness to it. The queso was $8.99 which was a little steep for what we got. I ordered the Chile Colorado Burrito and it was delicious. It was $12.99. The red sauce was to die for and while the the pork wasn’t my favorite the sauce made up for it. The burrito came with a side of refried beans, Mexican rice, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. It was a delicious meal that was wayyyy better than Maria’s down the street from this restaurant. Definitely will come back to order the mole sampler and dessert :)
