Got a latte from the drive thru once and that was a pleasant experience. Came back a few weeks later, choosing the place because it had indoor seating and I am training a new coworker for home health rehab services and we needed a meeting location. I arrived and had my order taken by an anxious employee who appeared to be running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Ordered a latte and eggs benny, approximately $18, $23 after tip. I understand how flustering the service industry can be as I spent 20 years in it. She disappeared for a few minutes, stating only one credit card machine was working. I was eventually shown to a table. My new coworker arrived a few minutes after I did and was met with hostility at the counter when he said he was coming to meet me, wasn’t ordering anything. The owner came out and began yelling that she can’t just let people inside because she is not Starbucks, but a small business and we needed to understand why she would not let my coworker in. There is a stanchion at the entrance that they will not open until you have ordered and they show you to your table that they select. I asked the owner if I could just have my order to go, and she got flustered and eventually agreed to let my coworker in, but not without grumbling. He ended up ordering a drip coffee, they served him a cappuccino instead, he did not complain. He ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and toast. The cheese was unmelted on top of eggs that were whisked once in the pan, not really scrambled. My eggs Benny had good sauce which the owner reported she added more hollandaise since I had ordered 2 extra eggs. All 4 eggs were not poached but very over cooked, close to hard boiled eggs. We were there approximately an hour. There were 4 people inside when we arrived and no one came in after us. When we went to leave, we were told we could not use the door we entered through- the door that is closest to the parking lot. Instead we were directed to exit at a door facing the street. That door required us to walk through the rain, around the building, all in order to reach our cars which would have been much more accessible through the other door. As a healthcare professional, I can attest that there is no reasoning for that set up as far as preventing Covid or any other droplet transmitted disease. It appears to be some weird controlling situation. I hate leaving poor reviews, especially when I read so many good reviews, however, after being yelled at by the proclaimed owner, I wanted others to be aware of the situation should they choose to attempt to try this place. I hope others have a better experience than I did and that the owner thinks before yelling...
Read moreThis is a quaint establishment. Been around for almost 5 years at the time we visited. Had the pleasure to meet Missy Feitz the owner aka the chef in the kitchen. The place was clean from the parking lot all the way into the restaurant. The gift shop has a lot of items are quirky and fun. One thing that caught my eyes was the Your Local Loco Moco (added spam, why not!) A very risky move putting this item on the menu if not done right. We also ordered the Hen in a Nest BLT, Blended Caramel Frap, Mango Strawberry Twister and quickly upsold into getting their scone which was worth it.
The warm, soft scone was a wonderful opening act to our breakfast. It wasn't too cakey nor overly sweet and full of blueberry flavor.
The coffee and smoothie were fantastic but the food came fast and hot. The dishes were neatly presented. The BLT has perfectly fried eggs in the center of the bread with still runny yoke. Vegies were fresh and the whole thing was simply delicious.
Frankly I was a bit nervous about the Loco Moco because we have had some bad ones even in Hawaii but to my surprise, they did everything perfectly from the runny yoke to the use of the correct type of rice and cook it perfectly. Gravy was one of the best that I had ever tasted (I know it is only brown gravy but this is simply plate licking worthy). Balanced gravy consistency allows it to coat every morsel of rice. Lastly the spam was fried just right. Any spam lovers would know the must for crisp skin and juicy center. This was our favourite dish of the day.
In short, this establishment deserves my...
Read moreSAVE YOUR MONEY!! I spent $50 for a coffee flight and an egg on a croissant!! First of all, the coffee flight itself was advertised at one price with the option to make it “boozy” but NO WHERE WAS IT POSTED it was an additional cost (I’m not ignorant enough to think there wouldn’t be an additional cost but I was thinking around $3. NOT $9! For a couple very small coffees that didn’t even taste boozy). I paid my bill and planned on tipping with cash until I noticed my bill was already $50, I asked for the receipt and saw that a gratuity of over $7 was already applied to the bill!! For a coffee and croissant?? We had a group of 4 people, not 6+. I have also never heard of a coffee SHOP charging a gratuity, which also was NEVER posted NOR were we made aware of this.
We were checked on maybe twice the whole time we were there.. This business is NOT transparent when it comes to their prices and additional charges. There are plenty of other coffee shops with better food and drink for reasonable prices. We won’t be back.
**Edit/reply after owner response- Your response is completely unprofessional. In an attempt to be defensive and combative; You missed my point- I stated the problem was your lack of transparency in your hidden charges and fees. Not once was it communicated to us or posted anywhere the up charge for boozy coffee nor the ridiculous automatic gratuity for a small group at a COFFEE SHOP. You are no where near “cheap” or “reasonable” and there are quite plenty of other places with better quality and prices. Have...
