The neighborhood bar. The kind of place where everybody knows your name—and apparently, your reputation, too.
I’ve been coming here on and off for a while. It’s got that cozy, local vibe, the owners are genuinely nice, and Al the bartender? Well, she was definitely two sheets to the wind last time I stopped by, which I guess adds to the ambiance. Who doesn’t love being told to leave by someone who can barely explain the rules of a dice game they’re aggressively not teaching? She literally walked away and started talking about my husband right in front of us. I mean come on… it’s obvious that she would never last at any place other than her safe haven where she has the ability to act like this towards a paying customer. It’s outrageous that she has a job In “customer service”
I know writing this review I’m really outing myself as I do live in the neighborhood and am going to feel uncomfortable but I feel I have to it was completely unjustified.
Anyway, I was sitting outside, when Al came storming out of the bar, hollering at me to leave. This wasn’t a calm, quiet conversation—it was a full-on public spectacle. I was told I had a “bad reputation,” which was news to me, but hey, I guess it’s easier to shout someone out than have a grown-up conversation.
The whole thing was sloppy and bizarre. If this was literally anywhere other than Wisconsin, she’d probably be fired on the spot. But hey—around here, I guess being drunk on the job and kicking out locals without reason is just part of the charm. Honestly, I left feeling pretty disgusted. The whole thing was messy and uncalled for.
Still, the owners are good people and clearly care about the place. It’s just the vibe that’s taken a nosedive. If you’re into unpredictable service, small-town politics, and the chance of being randomly exiled by someone mid-blackout, this is the spot for you. Cheers to low expectations...
Read moreChampions Pub holds a special place in my heart as the quintessential bar on the east side, discreetly nestled on North Bartlett Ave since my youth. Having been a part of my family's history since the 1930s, the establishment has undergone a transformative journey under Bobby's stewardship, solidifying its iconic status.
From the nostalgic Green Door to the inspiring Forrest Gregg portrait adorning the wall, and the cherished snapshot of the CHAMPION Family gracing the Family Feud, every corner exudes a sense of history and camaraderie. Undoubtedly, it stands as the premier neighborhood bar in Milwaukee, embodying a welcoming atmosphere that embraces everyone.
The recent expansion outdoors has remarkably broadened the pub's horizons, providing a spacious setting to accommodate more neighbors and college students alike. There's a charm in the air as you may find yourself fortunate enough to encounter Bobby himself tending the bar, occasionally joined by his family and their lovable canine companion.
Here's to Bobby and the Champions Pub—a true gem in our community. Sláinte! I eagerly anticipate returning soon for another...

Bobby Greenya and his wife, Maire, beyond being outstanding business owners, are spectacular people. This is a family that helps their community and provides a wonderful location to kick back and relax, enjoy sport's games on TV, or a game of shuffleboard with friends. They go the extra mile to make Champion's an East Side gem. Their St. Patrick's Day celebrations are legendary! Their huge backyard is especially a treat in the summer with kiddie pools to soak your feet in and even outdoor movies, live music and other fun events.
