This was my first time eating food from Lucky Liu’s and I’m a little disappointed. We placed an order for delivery for our office for lunch. The order arrived around the time we requested, for approximately half a dozen people. The prices were good for the portions; you receive plenty of food with the lunch combos. The flavors were unfortunately lacking for me (and another coworker who ordered the same item), although I think the food was mostly enjoyed by our group in general.
I went with the Hot & Sour Soup, and the Lunch Combo Sweet & Sour Chicken with the fried rice and crab rangoons. I’ve never had Hot & Sour Soup before, and it was alright. It was a little on the bland side and some of the mushrooms looking kind of unappetizing, but in general it was decent. The Crab Rangoons were good in flavor but when they arrived, they were just semi-warm and a little soft. The fried rice was good, but the Sweet & Sour Chicken was disappointing. It’s one of my favorite things to order, and it was extremely lacking in flavor and quality. The sauce came on the side, which probably saved the chicken breading from being soggy, but the chicken was so bland, even after adding the sauce. There were just a couple of small pieces each of the vegetables (green pepper, onion, carrot, and literally 2 pieces of pineapple), and they were uncooked which was so weird and unappetizing. If they had been more plentiful and sautéed I could see this dish being better, but it was really unfortunate and I wish I had ordered something else. There was a lot of food in my order, so the portions were large…but unfortunately it was a lot of food I didn’t really want to eat.
I would give Lucky Liu’s another shot, but I wouldn’t bother with the disappointing Sweet & Sour Chicken and I would probably try to eat in instead of...
Read moreLazy Thursday night, so I decided to order out for chinese. It was my first time ordering Chinese since moving to Milwaukee 8 months ago. I ordered two items to make the minimum, which is typical. I figured I'd just have food for three days since one of the meals came with so much in it. Delivery service was great thanks to Zoomer. But the food was subpar! I took some of everything Thanksgiving style, and was dissatisfied with each thing I tasted. The crab Rangoon was basically puff pastry with cream cheese inside. The general tsao chicken tasted like nothing but sweet sauce... No hint of spice. It had no flavor and it was overcooked and tough. The egg fried rice was undercooked and hard. The dumplings were big which some might consider a plus, but there was so much dough that it was simply ridiculous. They weren't even holding together. The insides were soggy and unlike any fried dumplings I'd ever had. They were browned only on one side and every other part was chewy wet. I think they took dumplings that had already been steamed and then tried to sear them in a pan. The won ton soup was like tap water with a dash of salt and came with no noodles. I've lived in New York and Atlanta, places with really great Chinese restaurants so I may be biased, but this was certifiably the worst Chinese food I've ever ordered. I added two packs of soy sauce to the soup, threw out the dumplings, and plan to recook the rice and add a little spice to the chicken. Shameful. Waste of money and I will most definitely not be ordering...
Read moreI never write reviews, but I honestly have no idea how this place has so many good reviews because the food missed all the marks. I will say that the store itself had a comforting atmosphere and was extremely clean/neat. With that being said, I've lived all around Milwaukee my entire life and have NEVER had BAD Chinese takeout until today. The fried chicken was mediocre, which is crazy to say because Chinese fried chicken is my favorite style of fried chicken. The lo mein did not have any lo mein flavor to it and the texture of the noodles were completely off. The fried rice was tasteless and the chicken/beef in there was definitely frozen/boiled because that chewy texture and smell was not it. Kung Pow Chicken was flavorless, feels like they threw everything in a pan and drizzled sauce on it without actually seasoning anything. Thoroughly disappointed, luckily this will be my first and last time here as I only stopped by because it was on the way home. If you want Chinese takeout, I honestly suggest looking anywhere else. All of the Chinese restaurants I've ever been to all have a base flavor profile for each dish and this place somehow missed...
