I visited the Knick on three occasions during a recent vacation.
Breakfast: I ordered the special of the day which was an omelette with cheese and vegetables, a side of breakfast potatoes and toast. The breakfast potatoes were very good, cooked crispy and well seasoned. The omelette was lackluster- bland and a bit watery.
Lunch: Turkey burger with a side Caesar salad. The salad was tiny and very basic, and a bit overdressed. The turkey burger was great, but needed more sauce. The sauce is drizzled on top of the bacon, leaving both sides of the bun dry. It turned out okay since the turkey burger itself was not dry and was pretty flavorful. I did ask for a side of ranch and unfortunately, it was not good. It tasted off somehow, and I didn’t finish it.
Appetizer: I got the crab dip, which was good. Rich and cheesy, but wished there were some bread or other vegetables with it besides just lavosh which can be a little dry against an already rich cheese dip. I still enjoyed it and the crab was noticeable.
Dinner: I opted for the bone in pork chop. This dinner is served with German potato salad, red cabbage with apple, broccolini, and a dab of grainy mustard on the side. Everything on this plate was incredible! The pork chop was everything I want in a chop- thick, crisp on the outside and succulent on the inside. The potato salad was perfect- balancing vinegar and smoky bacon with diced potatoes. The broccolini was cooked perfectly and I devoured every bit. The mustard was somehow addictive..it was sweet and tangy all at once. The red cabbage was a great bite along with a little pork chop and smear of mustard, all in one!
Beverages: I had wine, a mocktail and an NA beer during my visits. Really appreciate the variety of selection and the cocktails I saw being served looked very well made.
Service: the servers were excellent, though the food does take a little longer to come out. But I will say, every one of my meals was hot and fresh- I’d rather wait 20 minutes for my food and it be good quality.
Ambiance: it’s a hotel restaurant so it follows that modern but not too upscale vibe. It is not the most pristine or clean (some little messes on floors near busy traffic areas, sticky feeling menus) but the covered patio overlooking the park and surrounding area is very nice.
I would definitely recommend the Knick for anyone looking to relax and have a tasty hot meal and drink with decent service. Grab a patio spot on a nice...
Read moreI was there for the first time. I thought wow what a cute place. But the surprise I took. Let me tell you, it was my first and last time there. I was enticed to order the scallops $30 on their specials menu. Boy!!!! Was I disappointed! The plate was small with four scallops served on top of garbanzo beans and kale. So I ate the first one and it was burned it had the burned taste to it. I tried the second one, thinking maybe is just that first one. But that was not the case. Should I say something? I thought to myself, it was not pleasant eating a burned mea and on top of that pay $30. I handed over my plate to my husband to confirm that it wasn’t just me making this up because I am not that kind of person that complains to get unless the issue really calls for it. My husband agreed that the scallops were indeed burned. So my waitress picked my plate that contained one scallop and half left because my husband took a bite of one to verify the taste of it. I was asked if I preferred anything else on the menu so I asked for something else that I was that it will not take long to cook. So I ordered a plate that was $18 for some Tofu and a Portobello mushroom. They took too long, by the time they brought my dish out everyone else had finished eating. By the end of the dinner with our friends they looked at the bill, where we consumed almost $200 in our dinner, and we noticed that we were charged the $30 scallop meal. We raised this issue to our waitress, whom did not do a good job at mediating between the customer and their manager. Said that they could not do anything because they had given me that $18 meal for free. Does this make any sense to anyone? I will NEVER go back not only does this speaks poorly about their customer service but the low quality of the service in their kitchen. Do not go there! This place...
Read moreCost was high when considering average serving size. I enjoy a much larger salad than provided. I didn't pay attention to what was ordered by my companion for appetizers despite my food allergies. Lesson learned...Brussel sprouts appetizer had less sprouts than bacon. Plus, due to a goats milk allergy I really had to fish around to find anything without the cheese. My bad, for sure. The pasta meal my companion ordered was given to me because the lack of much meat. The burger I ordered had caramelized onions and a raw red onion slice. Seemed weird to my companion and I. Plus, I didn't remember the burger being listed with both. Guess what? I have a problem with raw onion making me ill and my companion doesn't like tomatoes, so switching my burger to my companion didn't r fix the lack of meat in the pasta dish issue. A nice selection of wine. The carrot cake was a generous portion, but dry and way too much nutmeg for my taste. The service was great. The waiter made recommendations, was patient, offered to bring out a different entree when we weren't happy, but it wasn't his fault we were dissatisfied. $100 for drinks, 2 entrees, am extra side of rice, a salad instead of fries, one shared appetizer, one shared dessert. Price seemed a bit excessive due to what was served. My companion and I walked away most satisfied with the service and the drink selection. I don't know if this place has a bar, but if it does, then skip the meal and get drinks here only would be my advice. This is the most dissatisfied I've been in a long time with...
