I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mason Street Grill, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish.
For the appetizer we ordered the clams which was a phenomenal choice best appetizer.
The twin filet medallions were cooked to perfection. I highly recommend ordering them medium-well—the tenderness paired beautifully with the rich Madeira sauce. The duck foie gras, served atop a crisp piece of bread, was delicate and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
The 64-hour braised short rib was a true delicacy. It was incredibly tender and full of depth. For those sensitive to heat, I suggest removing the dried spiral peppers, as they do add a touch of spice, but otherwise, this dish is a 10/10.
The Delmonico potatoes were outstanding creamy, flavorful, and undeniably addictive. This is easily one of the best side dishes I’ve ever had, and I would recommend it to anyone dining here. On the other hand, the MKE Mac & Cheese was the only disappointment of the evening. The cheese blend didn’t quite harmonize and left the dish tasting grainy and lacking flavor. I personally would love to see it reimagined with a three-cheese combination such as feta, Parmesan, and mozzarella.
For cocktails, the Road Mai Tai stood out as the perfect pairing with steak. Balanced and refreshing, the flavors of orange curaçao and lime juice shone through, while the toasted macadamia offered a subtle nutty finish. It was easily the best drink on the menu.
As it was my birthday, I was treated to a complimentary mousse bomb, which was rich, creamy, and deeply chocolatey. Garnished with fresh raspberries and a milk chocolate “Happy Birthday” sign, it was a delightful touch that made the celebration feel extra special.
Lastly, the carrot cake deserves its own praise. Fluffy, moist, and full of flavor, it tasted unmistakably homemade. The cream cheese frosting was silky smooth, and the warm notes of cinnamon tied it all together. This is, without question, the best dessert on their menu.
Our server, Tyler, was fantastic. He checked on us often, was attentive without being intrusive, and made sure everything about our visit was seamless. His service elevated the experience even further.
Overall, Mason Street Grill delivered an outstanding dining experience with a few unforgettable highlights. I would gladly return for the filet medallions, short rib, Delmonico potatoes, and...
Read moreI've eaten here before, and it's been good, but last night was either an off night for the restaurant or we just got the short end of a stick, and I was embarrassed as I had raved about this place. Myself and 5 of my customers were dining in and had reservations for 7 p.m., and we were sat at a table right by the kitchen. We were informed right away the restaurant was known for its steaks. We had appetizers elsewhere, so we ordered entrees straight away at around 7:30 p.m. after being sat and ordering drinks. Our waiter, Thor, was nice enough to get the bartender to make the same type of drink that one of my guests had enjoyed at the upstairs bar Blu in the hotel, though they regularly do not offer it, which was very kind. Unfortunately, our food took a LONG time to come out after ordering. Since we were sat by the kitchen, my customers were frequently turning around to see what was going on and if our food was coming. I believe we received our food after 8:15 p.m. and we were QUITE hungry by this point. 5 of the 6 of us ordered steaks, and 4 of the orders were filet mignon. The filet temperatures requested were well done, medium, and two medium rare. Two of them came out labeled medium, but one of the "mediums" was DEFINITELY medium rare while the other was very well done. On top of not being labeled correctly, they were also given to the wrong people (I ordered medium rare and received well done and my customer who ordered medium was given allegedly a medium that was medium rare). We had trouble getting anyone to come back to our table, but eventually we alerted a hostess passing by. In total it took about 15 minutes for the correct steak to be brought back out for my customer. At that point most of our group was done eating. One of my customers ordered a burger, and as soon as it was placed down she ordered mayo, but that was forgotten about until we reminded the waiter after he stopped back later to refill waters. Overall the timing of our meal felt very poor and I just felt like our entire table was treated as an after thought. For the prices paid, I would have expected better treatment and better food prep and execution. We did receive a free dessert, but compared to the approximately $60 steaks that were botched, it fell short of making the situation...
Read moreAbsolutely overpriced and poor quality food, the goat cheese ravioli was dried out on top from sitting, the sauce was mainly tomato peels, had no seasoning in the filling just straight goat cheese so the dish tasted sour like a moron came up with it and a big pile of parsley on top for no apparent reason My son had an $85 steak, it was tiny, they put a piece of bacon on top of an $85 steak which came with no sides just the steak why? It's to taste like steak not bacon!, the sides were nothing I wanted so I got the worst instant mashed potatoes I've ever had, no garlic or spice to them at all , no texture of potatoes at all more like slurry, this place was an absolute let down, Im not kidding when I say longhorn steakhouse is much better at half the price, they brought my son's $85 steak along with the wrong food for me, they left with both plates and returned 5 mins later with my horrible ravioli and my son's$85 steak that had been walked thru the restaurant and sat while it should have been given to him, they're lucky it was his birthday or I would have thrown a fit at this joke of a restaurant and had things removed from the bill, it was also extremely cold in the place to the point we wanted our jackets back on, like they turned off the heat at the end of the night to move people along, the wait staff was about as good as Applebee's, too many colors of hair, tattoos and face jewelry for a place serving such expensive food, I unfortunately got the ravioli because my first two choices were supposedly sold out, I wanted a jack and coke but they have Pepsi so I asked if they had coke for mixed drinks and they didn't, that's a sign of poor low class taste, you give me a jack and coke when I'm buying $85 steaks, I've never seen a classy bar not have canned Coke for mixed drinks, the jack and Pepsi was all jack and horrible, go to city grill for a better experience and that's a chain restaurant not an overpriced hotel cafeteria food dump like mason st grill.I will be calling the manager and telling him all of this, I grew up with my family owning restaurants and I don't put up with this...
